Unexpected Positive Song Reaction...

Not a gig situation but I perform guitar arrangements of classic rock and popular songs and upload them on my Facebook page. It seems like the more cheesy the song the better response it gets. Tom Jones "It's Not Unusual" and "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head" did well. :D

Surprisingly, my bass play-along recording of Brown Eyed Girl got a lot fewer likes than I though it would. :confused:

There's a local group that does a "yacht rock tribute band" thing that does a full show of yacht rock. Two guitars, bass, drums, and a crap load OF BACKING TRACKS including sequenced vocals and keyboards. No keyboard player and only a couple of people singing. My conclusion:

A few of the musicians in the club will stand stoicly in the back with folded arms hating it

Everybody else is having a great time and could care less, many oblivious to the fact they are hearing keyboards and extra vox with nobody doing them

True. Unfortunately. They seem to do pretty well bookings wise regardless. Which speaks to the musical intelligence of most bar/club audiences and goes to the theme of this thread - the hokier the music the better it sells. The art in it is to find stuff that's interesting enough that you can have some fun and make some $$$ playing it. If one's ambitions are to create art this type of gig isn't for you.

She was out of this world great. So sad she passed away so young, on the verge of breaking out and becoming an international star. She was a local phenom in the Washington, DC area when we lived there in the 90's. However we never got to see her live, sadly.

Fields of Gold and OTR are my favorites of hers but there are so many.
