Unexpected Positive Song Reaction...

We've been getting a great response to 'Need You Tonight'! We play it closer to the Bonnie Raitt version, so the beat gets them going first, then the realization of what song it is comes next and adds to the party. That's one, like 'Breakdown', that we've basically doubled because people don't want to stop dancing.

I sometimes find it hard to judge when the dance floor is mostly empty, but then folks applaud loudly to a certain song, is it a keeper or not for the set list? Usually the measuring stick is, did the song empty the dance floor or not. That being said, both of those Badfinger songs are good ones, but was always concerned, will they empty the dance floor or not? Or maybe having a few that are just good for the folks to listen/sing along to are good too.

We have exactly the same thoughts. We thought about dropping Baby Blue because it was a guaranteed dance floor clear-out song. But the positive reviews we got meant we kept it. We just took the approach of putting a couple ones that get positive dance floor reactions before and after it. Sort of a break for a drink?

We just added Jackie Blue this weekend and got the same reaction. The final decision on that one is still out.

This song is straight outta my high-school years and I'm 60, so yes, old people will dance, maybe even headbang a little.

My band mates and I do a heavy metal version of Fight for your right and oh my god, it’s totally INSANE ! Our lead guitarist turns out crazy every time.

We do Brandy along with Margaritaville & Tequila Sunrise as a salute to alcohol.. All well - worn classics but folks react very favorably to them. When we actually rehearse again I want to add Red Red Wine to the segue as it has been very successful in the past.
The UB40 version not the original Neil Diamond hit.

We used to do that one, But the "slightly different" version from "QuietDrive".. (I enjoy it better than the orig.)
I think the crowd thought that "we" doctored/adjusted it up a little, but was really just the Quietdrive version.

The chorus is a lil more .."dramatic" perhaps. Verses are still laid back..:cool:

We do 8 - 10 Yacht Rock tunes and they always go over great. Gotta have the vocals and keyboards to do them justice though, a lot of 4 part harmonies. "Baby Come Back" always fills the dance floor.

There's a local group that does a "yacht rock tribute band" thing that does a full show of yacht rock. Two guitars, bass, drums, and a crap load OF BACKING TRACKS including sequenced vocals and keyboards. No keyboard player and only a couple of people singing. Draw your own conclusion... :vomit: :bawl: :rollno:
