Unimpressed by Fender basses

As you can see, no room here for people that have differing opinions. Fenders are overpriced and the quality is generally sub par. Good luck on your journey.

I don't agree with this at all. The Fenders I've owned have been of stellar quality and the prices are actually below that of other basses of this caliber.

Setup is a separate thing all together. An instrument manufacturer preference is another thing and I think thats awesome. How dull things would be if all development stopped with the 1st P bass and that's all there was to choose from? Variety is everything when it comes to something as creative as making music. You may love Ibanez basses and many others may love Fenders or what ever else and the beauty is no one is wrong. The beauty is there are choices.

But lets not confuse set up with Brand Quality.

String height being too high is a setup issue not a brand issue. At spec fender action is just fine. Super low action is for people who don’t practice enough who are willing to sacrifice tone for playability

I only got serious about bass about 2 years ago so I had never actually played a Fender bass before. But today I tried out a made in Mexico Fender. Invalid Link Removed Unimpressed! Strings too far away from the fretboard. Neck too thick, but then I'm used to my Ibanez.
For $800 I would expect much better.
I tried out a $1,500 Fender. That was a little better but still the strings were too far from the fretboard.

This post only shows this person's inexperience. It's okay not to like a bass or a brand but it's simply unnecessary to create a post about it and nonsensical to pose your reasons as objective fact when they are clearly things that are based on preference.

Not entirely true- SUper low action can also give you a certain clank to your tone. At times I like that clank a lot...

Move the neck closer to the strings. It's called a setup. Most new basses don't have them yet. It doesn't make sense to do a factory set up as they ride in trucks in all kinds of weather and on airplanes. The setup would be gone by the time it gets to the store anyway. GC doesn't do setups on all their stock, too much time and work to keep then up. And not everyone likes the same set up. I like mine a little higher than normal because I like to be able to dig in without too much fret buzz and clank. I do like to set my action so when I really dig in, I get just a touch of fret buzz. It is like a bit of distortion. different Fender models have different neck profiles. I have a P Select that has a bass ball bat neck and a Squier CV P that has a very thin neck.
To each his own, of course, but judging an entire manufacturer by one or two basses is not much of an analysis.

Yeah. Of all the fenders I've owned, only 1 had fit and finish that was superb. It sounded like wet cardboard.

This thread = dumpster fire.

Kinda have to agree with you on this. I've played some good Fenders. I OWN some good Fenders. But they're the exception and not the rule.
