Some really fine bass playing. That first track put a lot of studio tuba players out of work.

My feeling is that no one cares. Maybe another bass player but that doesn’t make their opinion particularly valuable as far as I am concerned. Now if YOU really love the look of some oddball bass, then that’s what matters.
I suggest you work on standing out for your playing rather than for what your instrument looks like, but I guess that's a boring suggestion?

The basses I’ve own/owned that stood out the most were more modern. People, especially those who aren’t musicians (laughing at myself lol) get some shock value out of extended range basses, fan frets, unusual finishes or sometimes big money basses.

Nothing wrong with fender basses though although I’d try to get one that was a rare finish if you want something that stands out. The black with white or black gaurd is super common, burst with tort is about as unoriginal as it gets. I wouldn’t be against fender clone that had something interesting going on like the acrylic Jazz bass in this video. This is pretty cool imo. I’d rock the hell out of something like this
As for my bandmates opinions. Singer actually pouted a bit when I sold my 6 and 7 strings. Our guitarist hates fender lol, our drummer being a fan of all the pop/punk stuff (Green Day, Blink 182...) did actually ask me to get a fender at one point. I’ve had a couple Mexican standards. Might pick up another or do a parts build and make it more interesting if I found a weird signature fender bass like the Mark Hoppus in a color I liked I might jump on it.

Would've been nice if Ovation had a Breadwinner bass.

Yeah, nothing wrong with Fenders or Fender copies, just a matter of there are so many of them. If I'm looking at a band live or their video, always those designs. And I mean they work, they wouldn't be the go to bass for so many people if they didn't, but sometimes you need a little "what the hell is that" factor I suppose.
Trust me if I could afford one and get one, I would be all over it lol
I'm a huge Wobble fan so I would probably be going deaf after a while getting the rumbling lows going
Yeah it doesn’t hurt. Personally if I could get my hands on some older weird basses I’d use a different one for every music video we shoot just for the look. But most of the cool older basses that actually sound and play great are insanely expensive
My first bass was a very used Guild B-301 that was nearly as old as I was.
Very different look while still having a vintage vibe and they sound fantastic. Usually not too expensive on the used market.
There's also a two pickup model, the B-302
With the short upper horn the lighter weight bodied ones tend to neck dive though.

I met a guy who works as a stage tech for various big(ish) bands and who also ran a guitar shop. I asked him if he’s ever had a Magnum in stock as i wanted one, and he told me no, and if he ever did he was under instruction from the man himself to sell it straight to Jah Wobble
There are so many choices available new and old. Even Fender makes other basses.
In addition to the companies listed, also consider ESP/LTD, PRS, and BC Rich for different looking basses.
