Unique Bass to stand out

I don't know why, but the first thing I thought of when I saw that is dentist's chair.

Quality is all over the place, never mind condition. Better off getting something like a Danelectro - if you want to go nuts, have it painted wacky.

As of late, I've been creeping on reverb and trying to find another four string that is unique and sticks out, while still doing the job (which is obviously the most important thing.) Since at times basses tend to be a very homogeneous with the same sort of designs (the P, the J, etc) I've found myself kind of looking at the vintage section, and am kind of debating taking a chance on an older instrument.

What have been your experiences with older basses like that and have they helped you stand out from the endless horde of P and J's out there and has there been any experiences where you've been told "hey, could you get a P Bass or a J?"

As always, pics are appreciated. Cause I love me some bass porn. lol

Very, very true. Except for those few and far in-between times when it isn’t. In Detroit there is a guy who is an awesome, very much in-demand player. His basses are recognizable from a mile away, even though three of them are common brands. He’s just modified them to be HIS

And there is a woman who has a bass shaped like a fig leaf. Very unforgettable. And very good bass player. If you mention her name people typically respond “She’s the one with the fig leaf bass? Oh yeah, she’s baaa-aad”

Yes that fig leaf bass was Artisan Bass Works too.

how much do you want to stand out? I'd say to get a Dean Custom Zone and then drop in the pickups/preamp of your choice. The pickups are the only weak point of this bass

Plus, it's a rear-routed P-bass!

That beauty gets me every time. One of the coolest unique basses I've seen. If I only had the scratch I'd have you make one for me. ;-)

Yeah, the one in yellow, and wear a matching yellow hard hat. Get your guitarists to do likewise and name your band "Under Construction".

Incredible bass for the price. Haven't touched my L2000 since I bought this back in May.

Surprised no one has mentioned the flying V bass or any BC Rich bass.

For me, the simple answer is: Get a Ric! With a couple of easy knob adjustments, I've always been able to play whatever I want in order to blend and have a "stand out" sound whenever I want.

My L-2000 bass is not as unique as some of those pictured here, but I have had people talk to me about it before. When I played a Fender Precision Bass, nobody said anything because they are everywhere.
