Double Bass universal adaptors?

Can you power a 9 volt pedal with a higher volt adaptor? I have a boss tuner that takes a standard 9 volt adaptor, and a radial pz pre which takes a 15 volt adaptor. Can I run the boss chained to the pz pre with the 15 volt?

Also, I travel over seas a lot and would like an adaptor that can take 120-240 volt power.

Does anyone know of an adaptor that fills these requirements? Thanks!
 
You must use the proper voltage with the proper polarity.

If you hook up more than one device to a power supply,
you must be sure the power supply can supply the total current of both devices.

Add up the mA posted on each device. That total must be less than or equal to the amount of mA that the
power supply can deliver.

Again--- voltage and POLARITY must be adheared to.
 
If you put more voltage in something could be damaged inside and it might no longer work properly. This depends highly if there is a voltage regulation inside the device or not. But even with voltage regulation you can damage an electrolytic capacitor, since often enough there is one close to the power input and since they could get rather big they only work up to a rather low voltage (or they get much bigger).

If you are not absolutely sure that a higher voltage could be accepted (knowing and understanding the schematic of the device), don't put anything in that is not recommended by the manufacturer.

Also currents will add up if you want to use both devices at the same time. So your radial pz power supply might deliver enough current for both devices.

No.

Both the voltage and the polarity of the Radial PS is incorrect for Boss products.


Practically all modern SMPS's are "universal", but make sure to buy one designed for audio use.
Other electrical appliances that use such power supplies do not usually require any filtering, so the modulating "whine", caused by the switching, is audible in the audio signal.

Good advice above. Here's something else to keep in mind that I've posted elsewhere:
Many (most) wall warts are unregulated supplies and rely on the load (e.g., your direct box) to pull down the supply to the correct voltage. If you take the typical nominal 9v wall wart and measure the output voltage with a meter, you will often find that it is sitting at, maybe, 12 volts. Connect the load and it should drop to around 9v. This is why it's important to match the current rating on these supplies to the device you want to power. If you buy, for example, a 9v wall wart that has too great a current capacity for what you want to power, when connect your device, the voltage will remain too high. Buy a 9v wall wart with too low a capacity and the voltage will drop substantially below 9v when you connect your device. Regulated supplies don't do this at all.
