Unknown Bass Brands

I just thought it would be cool to get a collection of unknown brands together and discuss them. I like to look at basses online alot but I've mostly been looking at the usual suspects, Fender, Ibanez, Warwick, Spector, etc. Maybe some others would find this information useful as well. So, what are some quality and unique unknown brands of basses?

Grandure? Its the black Ibanez P/J knockoff....

Good luck finding much on System Craft. They were (still are?) handmade in Japan and I was lucky enough to snag this fretless one for less than 200 bucks on ebay a few years ago:

When I bought it, it had nice hardware, but mismatched pickups and was passive.
I added Bartolini pickups, Aguilar OBP-1 pre, wood knobs and Hipshot tuners.

VERY well built bass.

Hmm, never heard of the Grandure before.
BTW, what is SonicRushing? Is that a band?

LOL took me a while to figure out that what you thought was an "S" is the β in βΘИΞКЯŲŜĦÏИĞ®.

βΘИΞКЯŲŜĦÏИĞ® = BONEKRUSHING useing the exotic chars from window character map.

To answer your Q: βΘИΞКЯŲŜĦÏИĞ® is a tone that, well, crushes bones. The thread is linked in my sig. Check it out.

I shall not derail this thread anymore :hiding:

Can anybody tell me anything about Quest bass's..

I have an ATAK 2B

Can't tell you very much, other than they were produced at the Matsumoko factory in Japan, where other brands such as Aria, Ibanez, Westone, Elektra etc. were also made in the 1980's :).

The advert below appeared in a UK music magazine in 1984 and shows the guitar versions of the ATAK bass. It's quite an amusing read, too ;) ....

(Sorry for the 3rd page bump)

Thanks for the article, had a good laugh :D.
You wouldn't happen to know what the serial number L300049 means? Not vitaly important but it's almost impossible to find information anywhere on these haha! =)

Sorry Derek, I don't know a great deal more about the Quest range than I read in that article :hmm:.

However, you might be able to learn more by speaking to a forum member on the Westone Forum, called "corsair". He's in new Zealand and I know that he owns one or two Vantage guitars.

Vantage were the Gibson-based designs in the Vantage/Quest/Profile series of instruments, but I wouldn't be surprised if the serial numbers were in some way related.

Here's a link to the fourm. Just tell corsair that "Old Gregg" sent you ;) ...

Good luck!
