Unusual Rock Trivia?

Written by Edgar Winter, "Frankenstein" is one of the most famous instrumental rock songs. It got its title because of the arduous editing that went into the song; it became a monster when it was pieced together in the studio. Said Winter: "When we were editing it in the studio, back in those days when you edited something, you physically had to cut the tape and splice it back together, so it was all over the control room, draped over the backs of chairs and the couch. We were making fun of it, trying to figure out how to put it back together, saying 'Here's the main body; the leg bone's connected to the thigh bone...' Then Chuck Ruff, my drummer, says, 'Wow, man, it's like Frankenstein.' As soon as I heard that, I went, 'Wow, that's it!' The monster was born."

Nirvana was playing live at the MTV awards in 1992 after earning a VMA.
During their performance Krist Novoselic threw his Gibson Ripper bass high into the air (which are notorious for being excessively heavy ~14lbs) and missed catching it and cracking himself in the head, falling to the floor.



Did anyone from Nirvana come to his aid? Nah...Kurt was seen trying to stab the stack of amps and Dave kept on playing.

His personal morality involved crossdressing and a female alter ego. Also, when in Louisiana gambling at mob casino operations, he never paid his gambling debts when he lost, but insisted on payouts when he won.

Marc Bolan of T.Rex recorded a movie version of “Children of the Revolution” with Elton John and Ringo Starr.

Very trippy movie video pre -MTV. Check out Ringo’s hair.
His drums are superb as always and Elton is always great too.
“Children of the Revolution" was first recorded at Ascot Sound Studios for the film Born to Boogie, and featured Elton John on piano and Ringo Starr on a second drum kit.
Unfortunately Marc Bolan was an early member of the 27 Club.

From a previous post.

American singer, musician, songwriter, Gloria Jones, had a string of solo hits and was a musician and backing vocalist with T. Rex. Marc Bolan met Gloria when she was touring Europe as a member of the musical Hair. She became Marc Bolan's girlfriend and she driving the car, a Mini 1275 GT, that crashed and killed Bolan at 4:00 am on September 16, 1977 on the way home to Bolan's Richmond property in the U.K. Gloria recorded the original version of "Tainted Love" in 1964 and released solo efforts in the U.S. and the U.K. throughout the 60s and 70s. Gloria has worked as a singer, musician, and songwriter with dozens of acts as diverse as Neil Young, Jackie DeShannon, REO Speedwagon, Little Feat, Ry Cooder, Billy Preston, The Jackson 5, The Supremes, The Four Tops, and many more. She had a son with Marc Bolan named Rolan Bolan in 1975.

Hype was a band formed by David Bowie in 1970. The band was originally titled 'The David Bowie Band' for their first gig on 22 February 1970 at the Roundhouse, London.

Bowie eventually settled on the name 'Hype'. A phone call had sparked a discussion over what to call themselves, with a chance remark – “The whole thing is just one big hype” – providing a name that seemed to suit.
The band has been credited with helping to form the glam rock scene in the 1970s. The Hype band was also the debut for Mick Ronson when they played at the Roundhouse supporting Noel Redding's Fat Mattress on 22 February 1970.

Their first performance was so badly received, the band was laughed and jeered at as they left the stage.

The song was written by Ed Cobb, who also wrote “Dirty Water”(and other tunes)for The Standells, who he also managed/produced. Originally a member of 50’s vocal group, The Four Preps, in a way he could be considered a godfather of punk, as The Standells(one of the first bands to be labeled as such, but in a 60’s garage rock sense)also recorded this, covered by a number of bands but most notably Minor Threat…

Olivia Newton-John's maternal grandfather was Nobel Prize winning physicist Max Born. A secular Jew, he fled with his wife and children to Britain from Germany in 1933. Max Born was a German physicist and mathematician who was instrumental in the development of quantum mechanics. He also made contributions to solid-state physics and optics and supervised the work of a number of notable physicists in the 1920s and 1930s. Born won the 1954 Nobel Prize in physics for his fundamental research in quantum mechanics, especially in the statistical interpretation of the wave function.

Al Kooper, who played the organ solo on Like A Rolling Stone by Bob Dylan, and who was a founding member of Blood Sweat and Tears, had previously composed an earlier #1 hit, This Diamond Ring, for Gary Lewis and the Playboys.
Gary Lewis was the son of stand up comedian Jerry Lee Lewis.

Don’t forget the landmark “Super Session” album, with Mike Bloomfield and Steve Stills(plus a lot of tasty bass work from Harvey Brooks), one of the biggest records of 1968…
