Update - Played my first show

Congratulations! Sounds like an awesome first gig experience. Yeah, having good PA support is a beautiful thing.

I made a few minor mistakes through out the set but I took you guys advice and played through the screw ups.

That’s probably the most important skill you will develop. Mistakes are inevitable. My mantra is that the height of the cliff you fall from isn’t as important as how you get up and walk away.

@GodPlayedBass you rock! That’s a great start.
Don’t sweat clamming a note. Everyone does it. Hail, Pat Metheny has made a career stringing hundreds of wrong notes together until you just cave in and accept it. But I digress. Or do I?

Anyway, I bet it’s your hours of practice that did the trick for you. Remember, it’s not whether you gaff a note. It’s how you respond. And it sounds like you nailed that 100%. Keep going. Don’t kill the groove and you’re right, nobody will notice but you. Keep rocking.

Alright guys I played the show and oh man it was great lol. The first thing I want to mention is the sound guy. He was amazing! Put me through the PA system without me even asking, dialed every one in perfectly, he was on top of everything! A true professional.

Was super nervous of course but all the practicing I did paid off. I made a few minor mistakes through out the set but I took you guys advice and played through the screw ups. No one seemed to notice. The crowd really seemed to like our music.

After we got off stage I could not go anywhere in the venue without getting a compliment! Everyone was so surprised that it was only our first show and someone even compared me to the bassist from Tool!! I'm not as good as him but it was a great compliment.

Next to the sound guy, the real MVP was my squier bass. I've never played that loud before and man did my bass sound BIG coming out of the PA system. I can't believe my bass could sound like that. I felt powerful playing my squier VM PJ bass last night. I honestly don't see the point in buying a 2000 dollar bass anymore There are some pricey basses that I do want but everyone should know, your squier is most likely a beast of an instrument. Don't worry about the headstock name wars.

Wish I had photos to show you guys but I don't. I will however post our music video here when it releases. Just waiting to get the final cut back. Thanks for listening to me rant!

Congratulations and may you have many, many more!

Awesome! Had a similar experience many years ago at my first gig after switching from guitar to bass. A fan came up afterwards and said I was great and that I sounded like John Entwistle. I was shocked. I had no idea that mom knew who Entwistle was.

Just kidding, of course. Not kidding, though, when I say that I'm thrilled for you and hope this is the first of a long and fun ride. Enjoy it!!!

First and foremost, congrats on your first show, that's fantastic!

Indeed. Mistakes are inevitable. The trick is to not let one mistake lead into more. As long as you don't lose the groove, mistakes aren't a big deal.

The list of people who are as good as Justin Chancellor is short, so that's high praise indeed!

Never let anyone tell you a Squier or a Sterling or a Sire or a less expensive Ibanez isn't gig-able. See also...

Mike Kerr of Royal Blood played a $200 Chinese Gretsch for many years

Kerr still plays it. Yes, he mostly plays his Jaguars now, but he still breaks out the Junior Jet for "Figure It Out" and sometimes one or two others.
