Upper strap button loosens

I have this upper strap button that no matter how often or well I tighten it, it always loosens.

What would someone recommend? Super Glue? Wood Glue?

The common fix is a wooden toothpick. Insert before screwing in the strap button and Hey Presto! Good as new.

this works wonders. I will add use gorilla glue, but be very careful with it!

no!

no gorilla glue! it's a foaming, finish-wrecking disaster, and not even all that strong.

tons of threads on this, do a search; wood glue, toothpicks, crank the screw right in while the glue is wet.

Yeah, gorilla glue is brittle when it dries, plus it expands, so could potentially cause a crack to develop.

I had this issue... Mixed wood glue with some very fine saw dust and used a toothpick to push it into the hole. Screwed the button back on and wiped the excess glue away and haven't touched it since(6ish years)

even that is more work for less result; just use the toothpick itself with wood glue on it, it'll be stronger.

I must bow to walts knowledge. He has had his hands on one of my axes. I guess I was lucky with my use of the "nevermentionagain" glue. Looks like it is wood glue from here on out!
