Double Bass Upright Bass Stand for Stage

I always thought bass stands were kind of stupid and seemed like a good way to watch your bass fall and break but I’m going to be switching back and forth on this next album cycle and I think I want a really secure stand for the stage this year. What is the most stable bass stand out there?

I can’t remember the name of it but someone else here will…it seems the consensus a while back was a stand that leaned the bass sideways on the bouts, leaving it at a sort of diagonal angle was the most stable. It was also a very visually appealing look, if I recall correctly.

Im thinking more of a full presentation stand that looks nice on stage. I’m back center where the drums often are. We are going IEMS so I think there will be quite a bit of room onstage and I thought a stand might look good and less awkward for the bass swapping.

I use this Hercules stand at home

but I can see how the bass bar would be better on stage. If my end pin was any further out I’d have to put it in to use the Hercules.

Yeah. The floor on a filthy stage full of instrument cables etc is what I’ve always done. I’m just trying to think more about presentation and space. If I put it up on a stand it will free up my area and likely look better from the audience perspective. I dunno, I might just keep putting it down as usual.

I have one of these Ingles stands too but I think the Hercules is much sturdier. There was also some issue with the padding material on the support arms of the Ingles messing with the finish on the bass. I replaced that with some Tyson tubing.

After seeing the welds break on the Ingles, I'll never trust one again. They also tend to chew up the bottom edge of the bass unless you get the supports aligned perfectly. The Hercules is a great stand if you have a larger footprint on stage.

I have all of the stands listed above and I take the bass bar when I play out. It’s easy to use and I like the way it looks.

Yeah i use that one. It’s pretty good (the canvas case isn’t very good tho), and still works ok now that i have a Robpin instead of a straight end pin.

What i don’t like about it is the bass in that position just takes up so much room horizontally, though that’s “in space” rather than on the floor. In a tight bar when I’m doubling it’s such a hassle and people still knock into it, etc. I may try the Hercules one day.

Anyway, for Jason’s purposes seems like the Hercules would be good cuz it’s vertical and stable, so long as the end pin length is short enough.

I haven’t had a weld break issue with mine and it’s been in use for over 10 years. I did have issues with the tubing wearing through and chewing up my bass as you describe, but I found a replacement kit (through Gollihur is my recollection) which had thicker tubes and have had no issues on this front since.

At times I use my modified Ingles stand. Bottom arms covered with tubing and turned upside down. Don't need the top piece. Spare endpin keeps the legs spread out although not necessary.
