We are really dialing in the outline of the Bohemian, for me they have just been a bit "off" for the lack of a better word. Eric and I finished a new outline today, I'll have him take a shot of it tomorrow. Point being...it will be most accurate as to what this model is moving forward.

I noticed the website has been changed quite a bit. Are the "standard", "deluxe", "hybrid", and "hybrid deluxe" bass titles gone for good?

That's a complex question with a complex answer, Here's an example: take our Brescian model, it has a DELUXE top, its shape is very much based on the old STANDARD(which had English/Italian roots), and it can be had as a HYBRID.
Really, I mean really looking closely at our models I wanted to refine them, correct things, nail the lines and be more accurate to the schools. And in the process take away some of the confusion.
This is what happened to our basses...the "Brescian" could be called: a standard hybrid with deluxe top, high arching, flat-back, Kennedy f hole upgrade, deep ribs 7/8. OR we come up with a new name and stop all of our heads from spinning
Another confusing example, the Brescian, Concord, Karr, Bostonian and Mittenwald all come with a deluxe top as part of the build. The only bass at this time you can get with a "standard" carved top is the Bohemian, that's really the point of that bass being in the lineup. It gets UB customers a bass built by us, on a budget and without lots of fancy upgrades. Which IMO is nice in it's simplicity, thus my idea for its namesake. However it can be built up to be very nice.
The titles may be somewhat gone but live in many forms with all the basses we make today.

Gary, thanks for the answer. I definitely see the new naming system as a positive change, and like you said, it eliminates a lot of the confusion. Good move.
Even better, it makes the Upton design more personal and memorable. I've never liked companies that name their models "44-02" or "BB50". "Precision", "Monarch", and "Brescian" are the ones that will remain timeless.

I had a chance to take these with my iPhone tonight... I especially got lucky with the flamed neck... sorry about the stand in the photos. I was also asked if my fingerboard was "flat" under the "E" string... it is not... and yes, this is a standard flatback on this bass despite the deluxe carved top... Art.

I really like the look of the neck, how the finish blends in. Very nice!
I actually specifically requested that treatment from Chris, the finishing guy. It didn't happen by "chance". Art.

Thanks Gary, but at about two months old my "Sweetie" isn't ready for an upgrade... you'd really have to work hard to convince me that you can do better than what I have... you're welcome to take that as a "challenge"... good luck with this one. For any of you "tuning-in"... if you get the impression I'm satisfied with my "Sweetie" you're right... As I know Gary only by reputation I can say that I think he knows I'm the kind of guy that would enjoy hearing what he has to say... & I'll invest in an even newer bass if totally blown away by it... After about two weeks, about 7 gigs, and heavy practicing with my new Upton I have to say it just keeps getting better and better. It was a little stiff at first but I think the strings just needed to break in a little. It sounds great and makes my old bass sound and feel like a toy.
This thing projects very well, a few of the gigs that I would of never tried to do un-amplified (a few private parties at reception halls, and a country club) I never even plugged the bass into my amp.
So far I am very pleased with this bass and can only imagine how it will sound in a year or so after it opens up even more.

My response just got me thinking... I speak to tons of customers who have no clue what the heck I am talking about when I say ISB. Thats the International Society of Bassists. The ISB has a biennial convention in a given city where bassists, makers, teachers etc converge. THIS JUNE 2nd-8th its in Rochester NY at the Eastman School of Music. If you are a bassist and you don't go...YOUR CRAZY to miss it!!! This is the olympics for bass players. Kristin Korb is doing a great job of running things this year, check out the site for details: http://isbconvention.com
