USA Peavey Fury 5 String Question

Mine is a 4 string 1990 model. I like rounds on my bass. I have some MTD strings on it now, but I had some DR H-Beams on it a while back. Those were a bit much for that bass. The MTD's seem pretty nice and give a rounder tone. Oh on strings, check The Perfect Bass. I just got an email from them about their string sale. Put "stringsplus" in the coupon code box at check out. I'm not sure if that's any better than our Talkbass discount but I thought I'd check it out.

Ok,will do. It's been kind of blessing having to leave rounds on it for a few days. My control of finger noise has improved dramatically since I first plugged it in Sunday. I'm starting to dig the rounds on this bass. The strings on it are fairly new and they're D'Addario but I don't know what set #. They aren't half rounds though.

Yep, definitely a 90's, and those are shaped like Super Ferrites, even though they don't have the wording on them.

I prefer the Super Ferrites to the pickups that they replaced them with a year or two after your bass was made. It is extremely rare to see a Foundation 5 with the Super Ferrites.

Hey, thanks for taking time to reply. I hope they aren't that rare, because I may be looking for another one. I haven't heard it with flats yet, but man, this thing is fat sounding, and if it sounds like I hope it does with flats, having one with rounds as well will probably cure me of any GAS I may aquire.

Welcome to the world of Foundations. I have three and love them all.And all are black with maple, good choice you made there. All mine are fours, but I am considering getting a five eventually.

Thanks man, I'm happy with it. I knew from skimming through the threads that the ferrite pups were popular, but I really wasn't hip to the Foundation models specifically. I just wanted my first 5, and figured why spend 150 on up for an
entry level import when the US made Peaveys can be had for the same price or a little more ? So I started looking and got lucky. Real lucky actually, because a month passed after my initial contact with the seller. Glad he still had it when I called.

If your serious about another five string Foundation check with Starscream. She has a red maple neck with superferrites that she was thinking about selling a while back. Don't mention you've got a black one, she'll be very jealous,LOL.:bassist:

StarscreamG1 is the one I presume ?

Thanks, but she has it listed under previously owned gear on her profile.

We have had Peavey dealers here in town since the 70's, so I'm sure one will surface. I've got an ad on the local craiglist.:bassist: Watching eBay too. There is one on there , but the name has been removed from the head. I'll pass on that one.:rollno:

Check out my Foundation Here
I just finished painting it. I don't think mine has the super ferrites but I don't really know. They just look different to me. Otherwise ours look very similar.
When I got it, I put heavy D'iardio Rounds on it but I recently put Fender flats on it. What a huge difference string choice makes. I like the flats a bit more but it is just a personnel opinion. I have not tried them in a mix.

JohNL, Those are not the SuperFerrites. I believe they are called VFL's, but I don't know what that stands for. One of my Foundations has them, and while they are not quite as bright as the SFs, to my ear they are a bit warmer and work even better for old rock-n-roll or blues. The difference is subtle, and I love both types of pickups. I find they are the best compromise between a Precision and a Jazz sound. Very flexible, And I have no problem playing either all night in a varied cover band.
