Well, like I said, you can't go wrong with any of the basses you asked about. I wouldn't ever trade my G&L for the Squier, but I would happily add a Squier to the stable.

Used Bass on a Budget

Well, like I said, you can't go wrong with any of the basses you asked about. I wouldn't ever trade my G&L for the Squier, but I would happily add a Squier to the stable.
The other thing to remember is, "this is your next bass, not your last bass."
Tell me if I'm overthinking it but I'm starting to think about assembling my one bass...
I found a nice precision body (surf green) to which I could add a Mighty Mite Jazz bass neck...

A loaded bass body and a good neck at the right price isn't necessarily a bad choice, but you need, and I mean really NEED to make sure they're compatible before buying.
It's a bit more risk, as you don't know if you'll like the final product. Of course you can re-sell these parts assembled for whatever you paid.
If you're really going for budget, you can get a nice SX (Essex) bass, even a 6 string, for less than 200$ brand new from Rondo Music. I have no personal experience with them or SX basses, but they have a very good reputation.

Howzabout a bass you may never have seen in France, but are still available here (if you get lucky) for around $300.00, and will give you so many tonal options you'll be able to play almost ANYTHING?
For your consideration, why not a PEAVEY T40?
Yes, they are heavy (average weight...11+ pounds), but that is why they make BIG padded straps! There are many YouTube videos showing just how versatile these USA-made, vintage ('78-'85) Peavey tone monsters truly are!
Humbucker, Single Coil, Phase, Neck, Bridge....the tonal possibilities are virtually endless! With good luck, you can find these on Craigslist, GBase, eBay, Guitar Center used, etc. from $250-400 often with the original hard shell case. These may very well be one of the best buys for the money you'll ever see! There are plenty of used parts available for them, and also new pickguards being made in a wide variety of choices.

I love mine, and if you haven't played one, it's certainly worth your time to try one on for size. I think you'll be hooked!

Malak's advice is best in terms of finding an affordable bass. Used instruments on GC's website can be delivered to your door for $25. I don't know how long you're planning on staying here, but it takes about 5 days to get it shipped from any store in the US. I've had over 30 basses bought this way and shipped to me. Very happy with this option.

I've bought two used from GC at this price, the walnut and the white finish. The green one in the picture I bought brand new. These basses are very popular these days at GC as they sell a lot of these. Excellent value.

I couldn't agree more. I have a G&L L-2000 that will be with me forever,and with that being said I have a Squire VM jazz on the way to make it my second bass in my stable.

G&L may not be for everyone. Pretty much know you are listening to one whether you can see it or not. Part of why I love them.
(Snap, snarl, growl)On the other hand, if that isn't the sound you hear in your head when you think of "bass"- might well be happier with something else. I've got several other basses that have other distinct sounds, but the G&L is the go-to.
