Used cab help for new Mesa 800D

Needing a cab for my new 800D. I was originally going to snag a new or used Subway Cab but two options popped up locally.

1. Mesa R5410 the 1x15” and 4x10”

2. Ampeg SVT 8x10e

Both are totally unnecessary for me but at a fraction of the cost of something new. This can just live in my band room and never leave. If I need something portable I’ll buy a SW 1x12”. The Mesa is mint and more $. The Ampeg has rash but is less $. I look to talkbass wisdom, please advise.

That old Road Ready cabinet weighs about 200 lbs, really heavy and we con't have any parts for them anymore. The EVM-15L can be reconed with a good aftermarket kit (a pro reconer will know which kits are good and which are junk) but there aren't any equivalent parts for the 10's.

Why don't you just wait until a used Subway cabinet becomes available, I think you will be happier in the long run.

Ampeg 810 that will live in the rehearsal space would be my choice all day long. You’ll get spoiled because it’s the perfect rock cab.

No. For cheap look at used Avatar. The ferrite speakers sound better.
Otherwise everyone will tell you Subway 115 or 212, and that's for a reason.

In my area, this is still "THE" ultimate cabinet no matter what people say or what technology is available nowadays.

And the funny thing, at least to me, is the fact that bass players are using many different brands of amplifiers to feed it and it always works well.

is 'Your Area' a Senior Community:) I Kid

Yes even with newer Rock/Pop National Bands and Music Shows also most always with older touring Bands you still see the 'Fridge'

It was main Backline in 2025 Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame Show; I see it still all the time

I know it doesn't matter to you what I say:) but I am very content with available technology nowadays[Own Mesa Subway gear now] and did use SVT/8x10 from 1975 to 1980 playing Clubs/Bars on Long Island/NYC

It seems to me you might be limiting yourself. So many great cabs out there at all different price ranges. The older Genz Benz cabs, the newer Genzler cabs, Bergantino, Epifani and a few more. I love my Epifani cabs a 210 and a 112. Both are under 35 pounds, are very loud and pump out the low-end like crazy. They handle my Mesa BB750 and worked great with all my other past bass heads. Fairly reasonable on the used market. Good luck with whatever you chose.

But I too prefer my lightweight kit of two 112 Neo cabs and a 500 watts class D amp for obvious reasons !

Well I guess this was a pointless exercise. I thank all of you for the responses. Mrs. Knipy had to let the cat out of the bag. While it won’t be here for Xmas there is currently a Subway 2x12 on its way to me. I kind of spoiled the surprise but she knew I was on the hunt. I’m spoiled………
You scored big time on more than one account!
