There's some fantastic US bands that fit into that category - Stooges, MC5, New York Dolls, Television, Velvet Underground, to name but a few. All really superb in my view.
And The Ramones of course.

Klaus Flouride from Dead Kennedy's! My first club show I ever saw was DK opening for Sham 69 at the Whiskey in Hollywood. Before that, I'd only seen bands in backyard parties. Saw Wasted Youth in a living room in Pasadena!

As a kid I seem to remember more people playing J's at punk shows. I did and it sounded good with both pickups cranked and tone all the way open. Either a P or J will work just fine. Or a Ric, or Music Man.

I've had a Margarita in 'The Cloakroom' in Austin btw, do you know that place?
I stopped with some people just outside Elgin, on my way out west back in 2013.
