Using a tablet/reader/ipad onstage?

There are plenty of apps that will do what you want. Just maybe not OpenOffice files. The nice thing about OO is that it will save in MANY format types.

I use a iPad-2 with OnSong (app). It's great for lyrics, set lists, chords-notes, and anything else you can think of.

I also use StageScape (app) which allows me to customize my own monitor mix directly from the board wireless. No more asking for more or less of the other instruments in my monitor, I do it myself off my iPad instantly.

Same topic, new question: Say I want to buy a tablet JUST for music files, and I can save them as PDFs here on the desktop and then transfer them to the tablet. And say I like Android instead of iPad or anything Windows. What models do you like and don't like? I keep seeing deals for $79 tablets on Amazon and Woot and the like, but I'm wary...

You're not going to have as wide an app selection for sheet music as you do for the iPad.

Wow is this a stroke of luck,
Can I bring in my own pdf's, I already have all of my charts done. Also have set lists done and they are grouped by 5 songs. And from my understanding it's only pdf's that can be imported correct?

Just trying to get a better idea of how it works!

Just throwing this out it there anyway say on a set list to "tap the song and have it's chart come up?

Yes you can bring in your own PDF files, in fact you have to because the app doesn't provide PDF files, it just manages them. You do however get the chord charts that you can transpose that are available here: Invalid Link Removed as a PDF that you transpose to the key that you need. iGigBook also includes indexes to over 60 different popular fake books and real books making it easy to find tunes in those books by using a search that checks each book for you, great for jam sessions or taking requests.

You can create a set list, sort it alphabetically, rearrange the items, and initiate playback of tunes in your music library that match the title of the song in your set list. You can also send that set list and optionally include the charts as a PDF attachment to your band members.

There's also another app, iGigBook Pager, that you can use with your iPhone or iPod that allows you to turn pages hands free on your iPad.

I use GigBook (by Deep Dish) to do this. It's been flawless for me - you can use PDF's, or just make any notes you need on a tune, and put them in setlist order. Tap the on the set list, and anything you've entered comes up. You can also notate on PDF files (highlight, etc). Great app.

To my knowledge iRealB, doesn't handle PDF files, just the transposing chord charts. iGigBook handles PDF files, provides indexes for the most popular fake book and real books and also has all of the transposing chord charts available here: Invalid Link Removed which total to over 1,300 charts.

The search feature of iGigBook allows you to pull a tune from whatever book it may be in in real time on a gig. With a physical book or PDF viewer you need to check each PDF to see if the tune you want is in that book which would take time, how much time depends on how many books you need to check.
