Double Bass Using two pickups

Thanks for your input !! I went today and bought the Boss LS2 Line Selector. I tried it out with my bass and amp and it's exactly what I was looking for. The Underwood sounds normal (no drop off of low end) and with the vol. control on the pedal I can match the Realist arco output to the pizz. level. It's also about a 1/4 of the size of the Tonebone Bassbone. I'm going to sell the Radial Tonebone Bassbone.

Sounds like you're wanting to use one pickup OR the other, not a blending of both simultaneously. If so I'm thinking the boss LS2 line selector would be just what you need. Most boss stuff has an input impedance that actually works well piezo pickups. This one has a 1 Meg input. Can serve as an A/B, but an A/B w/ individual volume controls.

I'm pretty sure they've been making that one since the dawn of time, but it's not the most popular one.

It's one of those things a small company would never be able to offer something like that, because the demand is so small and the R&D/tooling is high.

Here is another company that makes custom A/B boxes and more. Passive circuitry with status lights powered by either batt or 9v power supply. Affordable. I've got one for my electric rig thats served me well for a few years now.

ARRRGGG I went nuts trying to find something like this, and ended up using two independent preamps to tone shape and match volumes, and a passive morely A/B to switch! It works, but it's a ton of little junk to carry around.

????? I've been seeing this one for a long time, and before that I remember a red "master switch" pedal, but it's not really an A/B.

If I remember correctly another function of this pedal (and also of the TU2 tuner or the discontinued "master switch"), when you use a power supply with this pedal you can also use a daisy chain connector to power all your other pedals.

according to the online stuff i've seen, the LS2 has been made since 1991 (16 years). That's a pretty long run for most products.

I've been using this pedal to switch between my BugBass and my G&L electric for a few years now. It's been reliable and seems to run on the same set of AAA batteries forever. Silent switching and only messes with my tone a little bit (all do to some degree).

I'm switching to a Bassbone to get different tones from each bass, as well as level balancing.

Two other useful features in the Bassbone for my uses. One is the DI out. I'm doing a NYE gig tonight where we play on different stages and I'll be able to give the sound guy an output from the BassBone rather than taking the DI du jour (I've had problems with the jumper line on a Countryman DI with my BugBass).

The other feature is the tuner out...my SWR SM-400 amp doesn't have a tuner out and the effects send seems unhappy connected to a tuner. The BassBone allows for silent tuning if you stick a plain 1/4" plug into the effects loop (documented in the manual). That also allows muting both basses during set breaks (again, my amp doesn't have a mute switch).

The 2 channel K&K preamp might be what you need. It has individual gain and tone controls for each channel which would allow you to tailor the sound to the characteristics of each pickup. These are internal trimpots which will prevent you from accidentally changing the settings you like. Two volume knobs on the outside of the unit allow you to select which pickup you want to emphasize.

I have the K&K, and for blending sounds I think it does a nice job...however to make a quick switch during a show book, having a footswitch is huge!
