USPS deliveries

I was experiencing some PS provided Priority box delays in the past couple weeks, but something tells me we're suddenly about to return to our regularly scheduled programming. Thank goodness. Other than this recent 'whoopsie', i have had nothing but 99.8% positive dealings with the USPS system. Our mailman is the coolest (too bad for us he's retiring at the end of this year), and i even sent one of the gals in my local office a card when she was out for chemo treatments a few months back.

agree brother and just as a sidenote, have no issues whatsoever with Usps — they’ve come thru for me year after year, day after day, just this hiccup with the last sale and the package in limbo had me worried. Hopefully it turns up soon, based on what she said it’s just “how it is right now” so hopefully we’ll be back to normal soon. Ps it was in the hundreds here in SoCal today, definitely drop your mail delivery person some cold water bottles these next couple weeks if you can. Stay safe TB gang.

Well our first COVID emergency temporary hires, based on the old Christmas casual employees finally showed up while I was on leave and have relieved letter carriers the burden off distributing parcels on their 11th hour of the day. However the percentage of carriers in quarantine and their vacation leave also went up. So some routes are still only receiving letter mail 2 days a week, if they are lucky but maybe a day of the backlog of parcels has been reduced so far.

Being in a COVID hot spot we were never under the no overtime initiatives that the new management wants to install and have been going 12 on and off since the days the toilet paper was snatched from the market shelves. The only change that was temporary was not having carriers work their standard off day in an attempt to keep them under 60 hours a week thus not have a contract grievance should the union get out of we are in this together wartime mode and go back to protecting those carriers who don't want to work 6 days a week and 12 hours a day. So while some choke points on the distribution chain are starting to relieve at the last mile we still can't handle the burden.

USPS delivers Amazon packages (in my area anyway).

I'm constantly blown away by Amazon and USPS. I order stuff almost every other day. All of it arrives in a couple of days AT MOST. The only exception was a shirt I ordered. But the actual vendor admitted the problem was on their end.

Short version: I'm getting mail and Amazon deliveries every day without a hitch.

My latest order will be a better test for me as to how USPS is doing. The order from Seattle the other day was only 60 miles up the freeway.
I placed an order yesterday from a joint in Brooklyn, NY. I got a notification just a few minutes ago from the store that my order has been packed and is ready to ship. They provided a tracking number which I checked on the USPS website. The current status is: Label Created, not yet in system.
I don't think they sent it priority mail, which is fine by me since shipping was only $6, so I am expecting it in one week from when it enters the USPS system.

I sold a pedal on Reverb a few weeks ago, shipped Priority a few days later- printed label at home and delivered to the post office myself. The first “origin” scan (to show any sort of acceptance to the USPS system, acceptance at the processing center) didn’t come for 5 days, and it didn’t leave my Los Angeles processing center for another 5 days. Still hoping it shows up sometime. It’s 11 days now and the last scan was when leaving the LA processing center.

As someone who ships over a hundred packages a year is USPS, it appears there was a bump in the road, but they appear to be over it.
I would not be so sure, if you haven’t been affected directly yet it’s probably just a matter of time. A cut-back of hours, changes in policy (ie- no longer waiting for the last piece of mail before leaving, creating backups in each step in the chain), and elimination of tons of sorting machines are likely to have long-lasting effects. Here is what happening in California: ‘Like Armageddon’: Rotting food, dead animals and chaos at postal facilities amid cutbacks

The package ended up shipping from a warehouse in Reno, Nevada. To my surprise, it was sent priority mail.
It arrived just a few minutes ago, right when the website said it would arrive. I had tracking results along the way.
I feel for the folks who have had issues with USPS deliveries, but there have been zero for our household. Every package arrives when it says it will, and anything I have shipped has been delivered on time.

If it fits, it ships.
There is no other service I am aware where I can send four pounds of coffee to the east coast in three days for $7.75.

I wonder if USPS is kind of in “Oh yeah? You think we can’t do it any more? Well let us prove what you’ve been hearing is wrong” mode right now.

My pedal finally arrived safely to the buyer, Priority Mail 14 days from Los Angeles to Georgia. I’ve experienced worse, but my biggest concern was waiting the 6 days for an initial acceptance scan. One of the desk clerks at the post office I dropped it off at said that they were directed not to do acceptance scans for pre-paid postage in order to “save time” even if you wait in line to do so. I’m glad it arrived safely, but am wary to ship anything else of much value via USPS until there is some clear trending improvement in the situation.

The USPS is not like the army which can send the Airborne ready battalion to problem spots. Everything is based on the local unit at the shipment choke points. If they are manned adequately or lacking in staff due to quarantines. Full up on staff it moves to the next step pretty much as normal. But lacking in staff it needs to be deferred as that local staff struggles to catch up on their backlog..

It just happens that the first COVID emergency temps, based upon the old Christmas Casual employee program are just starting to reach the district plants and carrier stations to work.

FedEx though, those are my tails of woe.
I am currently tracking a two pound package that left Secaucus, New Jersey on August 18th heading to our house.
First delivery estimate was the 21st which seemed ambitious, so I didn't believe it.
Sure enough changed to the 28th, then the 26th, then today. Now it is sitting about two hours from our house in a FedEx hub with no delivery date. It just shows as pending.

I sure hope you meant tales, and not tails!
I also was expecting a package that was pushed off until tomorrow at the last minute.
