Utility of a single sub

A bit late to the party but i just wanted ot add my thoughts.
We use a small vocal PA as well (1 x Peavey Hi Sys 1x15 each side) and recently got a Peavey self powered sub. Its the cheap 400watt one.

After a lot of walking around the rooms as sound checks it seems to me that if we are on the floor, then putting it under the speaker on the guitar side works best. It seems to balence out the low feqs. I know they are supposed to be omni directional but on the dance floor it sounded better having some sort of low freq coming from both sides.

On stages we put it dead centre if we can and normally put a monitor on top of it.

We placed it guitar side about even with the main front.

With only that test, it was definitely nice to have, but I don't know that the rest of the guys want to commit to it.

There wasn't a great opportunity to do much listening from out front. We got crunched for time.

My wife made the observation that the vocals were more clear than she had ever heard them before. I don't know if that could have had something to do with the sub or if it was just something unique to the circumstances of the setup that night.

Yeah, thats exactly where our one goes.
I think we notice it more when its not there than when it is if that makes sense.

It nice to have though, and it takes the pressure off our main speakers when we put the kick drum through the PA.
