Valenti Bass #83
Okay so here we go!
Back in December, I got my first Valenti Bass (#119) from Nino via Talkbass. I was so impressed by that bass, I started to search for another. With a little help from Chef and MadBassPlaya in the Valenti Mega Thread, as well as a call from Nino himself, I was able to track down Valenti bass #83 and she finally arrived this afternoon! It was a close race though. I was also in talks for #10, #32, #33, and #134 (Which may still be listed in the classifieds at a crazy good price!). There were a lot of factors that effected my decision, and I ultimately chose #83 for the vintage looks and options. So, without further ado, here are the specs

When I received the bass this afternoon, it was in need of a major set up. The strings and battery in the bass were about two months old, the height of the pickups were way off, and you could tell she had been sitting just waiting to be loved and played. Luckily, my tech was free this afternoon, and I was able to drop her off for a quick set up and run through. He did a great job as always and this bass rocks!
The first thing that draws attention to the bass is the vintage relic look. The relic job was done by Brett Grimes (IbanezCollector). He signed the inside of the back cover where the electronics and battery are stored too. Its dated 2008. Brett did a fantastic job with the relic. For the most part everything looks natural. The nitro finish is just amazing. The look and the feel embody the vintage mojo of any 70s Fender bass I have ever owned. Really solid job.
Now onto the electronics. What can I say here the wiring Nino does is the best I have ever seen! Everything is clean and tight. Seriously the best. Hands down! The Nordstrand pickups are amazing. The NP5 neck pick up and the Big Split 5 allow for almost every option under the sun. You want rock tone? No problem! You want funk/slap? No Problem! You want a deep mellow jazz sound? No problem! The control layout really allows you to blend and adjust these pickups to whatever sound fits your needs. There is a volume control with push/pull for passive mode, blend, midrange with push pull for mid shift, and stacked bass/treble.
The neck and fretboard are fantastic on this bass as well. In my hands, the neck feels fast and the action sits nice and low with no fret buzz at all. Moving around this bass has been smooth and easy. The matching white headstock really tops it off with a touch of class. Such a cool look.
The hardware is top notch too. UltraLite Hipshot tuners, Hipshot Vintage Style Bridge, and Straplocks.
Overall, this bass is fantastic. Its everything I expected and more. Already owning #119, which is a more modern sounding bass, Iwas looking for a bass that could capture the look, feel, and sound of a vintage style bass, but keep some of the modern edge. This bass does all of that and more. I could not be happier with this bass. Nino does top notch work. This is my second Valenti bass and it will not be my last. I have already been in talks with Nino to build me a custom VP4 soon, and I cant wait to put that deposit down!
On a scale of 1-10, Valenti Bass #83 scores another 11!
