"Valenti Basses" Headstock

He's building them from Warmoth parts for the public.

Im talking to him about putting another 2 together for me. I just need to get the dough together.

I know some people are going to wonder what the point of buying a Warmoth bass through Nino is, but thats probably because they havent played a bass he put together.

The neck is seated incredibly well. The fretwork is awesome. They are all level and the ends are smooth with the tops rounded very nicely. The nut is very cleanly cut to the correct height. The truss rod route he put in there is great if you ever have to make adjustments and the the wiring and electronics work is probably the neatest Ive seen.

Ive played a couple of Warmoth guitars. One someone gave to a reputable tech I knew to assemble, and while it felt good, it wasnt this good. The other guy did it himself, and while the parts were quality, it just didnt feel good.

Oh, and the price he told me wasnt bad either.

How about this Nino? The changes are pretty subtle, therefore maitaining a pretty classic look, and it should be different enough to keep you out of court.

This thread reminds me of when I was designing my bass and I got to the headstock.

I think thats the hardest park of a bass to design.

The headstock on your bass kind of remindes me of the headstock on the Valley Arts guitars/basses.

This is who I was reminded of. I like the more traditional headstocks. The Fender and Sadowsky shapes rock. The Valley Arts / Harmony / Austin vibe doesn't work for me.

Tims' version is an improvement.

Who builds these for you Nino? I think it's an ok design but I think I would personally prefer it to look more like the regular Fender style headstock. It just looks like one with a small chunk taken out. Not bad, imo but that would be my .02. Hope it helps somehow.

Like Nick said, I'll be using Warmoth for bodies & necks.

I'd like it to be more Fender like but I'd rather not get sued by Fender.

My only question is how are you going to do 5 strings with that design? That headstock would look wicked with a 4+1 design but the Valenti logo would have to be moved.

Most likley, it will be a 5 on the bass side & I'll be using Gotoh GB7s.

I like the downsized idea and the shape of the bottom, but I don't care for the chunk cut out of the end. Reminds me of a "A Bass". I'd stick to a more traditional shaped end .... Fender/Sadowsky/etc.

That's what I thought too. Looks like an "A" bass.

How about this one? I just took Tim Cole's idea and gave it a little more "edge" - I think it turned out really well, myself, and it's different enough from Fender while retaining that look.

Maybe adding some kind of point is they way to stand out, yet make it different enough to not be G&L

I like the rounded curve under the A string (a la Sadowsky) and I like the G end to be more like the Lakland, where most of te curve is left intact but a 'scoop' is taken out of the bottom of the 'ball' on the end.

Well that was incoherent. How about 2/3 Sadowsky, 1/3 Lakland? Divide it how you will.

I like the traditional Fender design and I understand that i must be hard to come up with a good headstock logo. I think a sleek, vintage spin would look good with yours. Jammadave's designs are nice, but more modern and edgy. Good luck!
