Valkyrie

Thanks for the review TP.

I've been going back and forth on seeing this. I don't dislike Tom Cruise, but I think I'll have a hard time taking him seriously in this role. Does he speak with a German accent? Does it sound real if he does?

Nobody really speaks with a German accent. In fact, the English actors playing the Germans is probably the weirdest thing from the movie.

No, the movie is almost entirely done with no accent whatsoever, I guess to make it easier to follow since there's a bit going on.

However, Cruise did learn some German for the beginning, and from my time dealing with Germans and studying German in college, his accent was fairly convincing. I couldn't put a region on it though, just standard German to me.

I haven't seen it, I'll probably download it if I want to see it. I just can't see myself paying to see a movie with Tom Cruse in it, while he wears an eye patch the whole time. Sorry, can't take that serious. Although I really liked him in Tropical Thunder, although it took me half of the movie to figure out that it was him.

Took me the whole movie! :p I thought it was Jamie Kennedy (you know - he does disguises a lot like that) and I was thinking: wow - Jamie's really going off the deep end this time! :p

Would have definitely been nice if the conspiracy had succeeded, though I do have to question the motives of the real dudes, and whether this movie candy-coats that to make TC look more angelic.

Cruise is a flake, but he's no flakier than a bunch of other people in Hollywood and in political circles.

I dont have much trouble "suspending disbelief" when Cruise is on-screen. I'm looking forward to the movie.

The one I sometimes have trouble seeing in his role is Jack Nicholson. Much of the time, I see Jack acting a role. Only occasionally does he overcome his personality and submerge himself in a role.

OTOH, Anthony Hopkins is a complete chameleon. Anyone who can play an English butler, Hannibal Lector and Don Diego De La Vega - all convincingly - has my respect! He can play anything!

I just watched the History Channel special on it.
Very interesting.
I'll wait for the movie to come out on cable :)
same here .
:hmm:
the actual Valkyrie Program was not a plot to kill Hitler ...
{ it was originally designed as a fail-safe program ,
to keep slaves from revolting ,
and was actually approved by Hitler himself
} .

the thing about Cruise , is that i can't get over the image of him
jumping up and down on Opra's couch ...
not to mention his public/private life . :ninja:
