Vegetarianism vs Veganism

Morningstar Farms used to make veggie steak strips, and they were yummy! In fact, they were the best of the whole "meal starters" line. However, they stopped making them.

I cant recall if Ive had them, but they do seem vaguely familiar. The chik'n strips are sort of 'meh' and way easy to overcook. I keep the beef crumbles stocked for making tacos, and sometimes throw them in my bean & cheese burritos.
I avoid any meat substitute that comes with BBQ sauce, like the MF riblets, or the Gardein Pulled Pork style shreds. The quality of the BBQ sauce always sucks and ruins it for me, even when I add ym own sauce.

I don't know that you'll find a substitute to satisfy that craving. A couple good options have been suggested, but you may be disappointed. Drink some water and watch a couple undercover cattle slaughterhouse videos on YouTube. You won't want that steak anymore.

The craving for a steak just doesn't come across to me, even when I ate meat. I crave a beef hamburger now and then, but I have some water and a few cucumbers or carrots, then I forget I wanted it.

:eyebrow: Man you got way more willpower than I've ever given you credit for Mike...that never, ever works for me :D Every time I eat something else when I'm really jonesin for a steak I just end up waiting to get just hungry enough to grill up a piece.

I never ate beef very often in the past, but now that I can only rarely have my salmon, catfish or snapper the beef be callin me

I picked that up when I was seeing a nutritionist/mental health professional to learn how to eat properly and control portions. It worked for me, so I use it when I crave something I normally don't crave....like a burger.

I seldom find myself in a "I have to have a....." food craving moment, but I know many people do. Those are powerful emotions. Treat them as such, and it is easier to control them.

I'm a vegatarian about two-thirds of the time. I don't eat meat for breakfast and lunch usually. I will sometimes. If I run over an opossum on the highway on the way to work, I will pick it up, cook in on my intake manifold and eat it as a mid-morning snack.

Groups in what way? Ive never belonged to any sort of vegetarian group, though I do happen to have a lot of vegetarian friends, some who have fallen off the wagon after many years being meat free. I see it as a personal choice, and not much of a cause to group people into.

Yeah, it's no reason to group people together. At my uni there is a group. They pretty much have pot-luck dinners together or go out for dinner, probably discuss their next 'militant move' in vegeifying the population. I dunno, it's too much crap for me. There's another group that's basically the same for vegans in my city. I can see it being a good thing as it's a good form of sharing information on particular food outlets, products etc. Most of the discussion happens in FB groups. It's also a negative thing though, forming a pack mentality. To be honest, I've met far more vegans I don't like than those I do.

Flavor. No iron deficiency....I just like the hearty steakiness sometimes :)

Matty....beefless tips sounds good; that should be worth a try

I can't eat fish ( :( ) because my wife is sensitive to it these days...that's how I usually get my lean protein on as I don't like chicken or turkey all that much. And beans I can only do sometimes. Now I'm eating more and more steak and my body is giving me the business about it.

O.o i love beans and chicken and turkey. this thread has me thinking about making a burrito. seitan, black beans, brown rice.
