In my experience they're about as bright as the Pirasto Pizzicato gut strings, who i found to be a bit brighter than most other wrapped guts, but they are surely not too bright!

How do Blues compare to Garbos? Tbh, I don't mind a "little" muddines. I don't really like bright strings with a lot of sustain. I might as well take a BG if I wanted that sound :D

Its a noticeable difference for sure. Whats really nice is they are still pretty much the same gauge, just a bit softer feeling. In terms of wrapped gut, well, they're not guts, but a lot of guys use the garbo-lite A and E with plain gut D and G it seems.

Great question Norre, I'll have an answer for you soon, first gig on the SuperSilvers tonight :help:

I had the Garbo A break on me on a gig two weeks ago. It was less than two years old and the second string that had failed in the same way, the wound portion broke free of the endwrap (this time at the pegbox end, last time was at the tailpiece end). For the price of a set that's just unacceptable. I've been using Garbos since they first arrived in the US (10 years? maybe more?) but I'm done for now :spit:

With prices of all European strings up in the USA, I saved close to $100 going to SuperSilvers. My first thought after putting them on is they are darker sounding (even though brand new!) than my 2 year old Garbos. I haven't tried arco or amplified yet.

Tension seems about the same.

Arco on Garbos is impossible on the G string but OK for the other 3 (which have different outer wrap), the SuperSilvers I found to be not as easy to bow as the Garbos and the G string is bowable :hyper:

Through the amp (AI Coda using an old Realist pickup) the tone is much darker, none of the honky mids I would have to EQ out with the Garbos :cool:

Well, I survived my gig after a visit to feedback-land while getting the amp dialed in for the Super Silvers. As I noticed at home, there is much less of that nasal 800Hz hump that is common with many strings when using a piezo pickup. Overall, the strings sounded gut-like, good balance across the set, tension was comfortable and they held their tune well.

I'll stop back after a few weeks of gigging with more but so far a thumbs up.

Someone in this forum gave me the idea of swapping the Garbo E string for the Anima E string!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did that just out of curiosity and now I am so happy with it and will definitely leave it like that, Anima E goes so well with the rest of the Garbo set, I am also a little tempted to say that Anima E is better string than Garbo E!! I prefer Garbo A,D,G. But I think that I will swap the Garbo G for a Gamut medium Lyon G soon.

Well, I wouldn't have even made the switch had I not gotten a chance to try the Animas free of charge courtesy of Nuno. I had purchased a B string made for either the Anima OR Garbo set, and for some reason the amount of $$ didn't clear my account until about 3 months later, at which point it overdrew my account. When I contacted Nuno about it, just as a 'heads up' about the accounts payable process, he immediately offered to send me a set of Animas free of charge for my troubles. Needless to say I did NOT say NO to this!!!

As far as comparisons on my EUB, I would say that the Animas have more pitch clarity on the bandstand than do the Garbos, at least on MY bass, and yet I miss that gut-like thump that the Garbos have. If your bass is inherently dark sounding, I would recommend the Animas to bring out more midrange/hi-freq punch. If you have a bright/balanced sounding bass, the Garbos might just do ya fine. Hope that helps!

Sorry to go off on a tangent. I'm still loving the Blues and had been wondering to myself how long I've had them on my bass.

So I dug through this thread and found that my first post- Blues post was just short of a year ago. (I'd had them on for a couple weeks). I've been gigging at least once a week and trying to practice every day (although I don't always succeed), and I'm still really digging the Blues, especially in drier conditions. Go, Blues.

Caveat: I'm still not bowing yet.

I've heard good things about the new(ish) Velvet Blues lately, and heard them on a couple of different basses and am interested in trying them out. I haven't been able to locate a set with an Extended E string, so I'm assuming they don't make it currently. Does anyone know if they make one, and if not if there is any intent to make one? Thanks!

Anyone currently using these?

Hey guys,
So here's a newbie question..
I just got the G and D sting Animas in the mail. I'm really excited to try them out! However... I'm to the point of taking off the old string and putting the new on when I realize it's just a loop instead of the normal 'ball' at the end of the string...
I figure it's meant to just loop through, but is there anything special I need to be doing with that for a correct setup? I'm just a little scared of where the tension will be placed since the actual 'string' isn't to the end, it's just that loop shaped thread...
Does this make sense? Am I being too worried?
