Verdine White Tell me it aint so!! {:>(. ..

Maybe Verdine has some health problems keeping him from playing live. After all the guy's 59. Don't get me wrong I'm not saying he's old but after being on the road and touring for some 35-40 years it takes a toll on your body and mind.

Tell that to Rocco Prestia or Tony Levin or Stanley Clarke or anyone else that's been on the road a lot and is now in their 50s or 60s.

Verdine will always be a favorite with me. He's laid down some of the best stuff ever.

But it's all about the show...all those people that pay money to be dazzled. These big artists don't care for the handful of musicians who nitpick and will never see them anyway.
I've always said, musicians don't financially support musicians.

C'mon...even Madonna got an award one year for 'best live perfomance'. !!!! :eyebrow: you kidding me!

And I don't think any of those cats has jumped around on stage even half of what Verdine and the rest of EWF have over the many many years. I'm not condoning any alleged prerecording or sequencing, but if the man cannot play, he cannot play.

Yeah, latest injury is a torn tendon (in January) on my fretting hand ring finger. Torn tendons take up to a year or 2 to fully heal! I can play but forget about any fast arpeggio runs! :crying: It's still swollen and I can't put my wedding ring back on yet. The way Verdine plays nowadays, you can tell the years (or other factors) took it toll on his hands and playing.

That stinks. Sorry to hear. I punched someone while I was drunk a few years ago and had the "boxers break" happen to my right hand (my pinky looked like it was almost coming out of my palm afterwards and I had to reset it really quick; almost passed out from the pain). I still can't hold the bow for very long with French grip. That's what I get though. My first physical altercation ever in my life and my hand gets irreparably damaged (I couldn't afford to see a doctor at the time so it probably healed wrong too). Thank goodness none of my pizz playing on upright was effected nor was any of my electric bass technique. I'm sure it will haunt me for life though. Sometimes it feels like a toothache.
But more about Verdine White!

Whether Mr. White is playing or not... it really doesn't bother me one way or the other. Truth is, EW&F isn't packing the houses with musicians. And middle aged people want the show. And who knows his motivations for playing, or not playing. Without asking him, we'll never know.

All I can say is in some videos I've seen, when it's his turn to solo, the tone is completely different from the rest of the songs.

Huh? Every bassist that I've watched changes his tone for soloing.

I don't care if Verdine doesn't play as much bass as he used to on stage nowadays. The man has chops and funk. No one can deny that. Verdine's stage presence is truly second to none.

Hey, I gotta jump in and get my bro verdine's back... I can assure that he is playing quite well these days.
As far as Stanley, Rocco, and Tony... check em out. Verdine moves more in one night than they (or I) do in a year. Not a slight at all as they are ALL making great music, and to one degree or another have all had health issues, some serious... And ALL are great people being great at what they do.

Verdine still fits in the pants he was wearing in the 70's.. can you?:D SB

OH... heres a fun video with Verdine, hadrien, and a bunch of other nuts.... I say Verdine is layin it down.
