I'm new here but I spent my time scouring the forums and did my own homework trying a few rigs out with my gear, and I'm looking for some knowledgeable opinions from everyone out there.
I have a Ric 4003w and Fender Coronado reissue. Currently, I'm playing through an Ampeg PF-500 and PF-210HE cab. It sounds fine with my Ric, as I can get a nice growly tone out of it, but the Coronado doesn't get that warm, hollow low-end sound that I'm searching for. So I packed up both the Ric and Guild and went out to try some options. Ideally, I'd like something versatile and simple enough to bring out the classic ric growl and punch, but can also support the warm low and low-midrange tones of my Guild. Also, if there are any you recommend that I do not list below, I'm open to suggestions!
Here are the ones I tried out and my concerns with them (if any). I played most of them through 2x10 or 2x12 cabs:
Fender Bassman 500 - love it.There are a few too many tone shaping controls, especially with the pull switches, but the sound is great.
Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 - Might be the frontrunner, as it was simple to use and had a lot of versatile tone shaping. Like the overdrive too.
Orange OB1-500 - it really didn't blow me away (also It was the one I played directly after the tone hammer so that could have affected my opinion.)
