Victor Wooten....Hartke?!?!?!!!!

I have the 410XL (withouth the 5") and I adore that one too.
I'm planning on buying a second alu-cone cab too. Maybe the 4.5XL but I don't have the chance to test them anywhere.
Are they great? How do they compare to the 410XL?
... and would the 4.5XL toghether with the 4.5XL?
Anyway, the 410XL is an amazing cab and at an affordable price.
I haven't A/B'd the 4.5XL and the 410XL, so I can't comment on that. In my experience though, the 4.5XL is a very punchy cab, with what I suppose some people would call a "hi-fi" tone to it which I take to mean that they can hear every nuance of their playing (without the natural distortion of some cabs), and some people don't like that!
I used to prefer 15" speakers in cabs for the bottom end, but since I started using the 4.5XL I find 15s very muddy and undefined. The 4.5XL is pretty immediately responsive, and it handles the low B of my RBV admirably. When I do purchase, it'll either be another 4.5XL or the Hydrive HD115, I'll wait and see what the good word is on the latter over the next few months as they filter into use.

It's interesting from a music business perspective, but I find it pretty funny from a musical perspective. I like Vic's playing a lot, but his sound to me is exactly like going through a nice direct box into a flat PA. It's a perfect sound for him, but it's basically a colorless, clean reproduction of his colorless, clean EMG pickups. Whatever, he sounds great with HIS sound. I like a much more warm, colored sound myself.
By the way, anybody have a clue about who the company was that had a great product but a bad personality?

(a positive review concerning my needs, it seems my kind of cab.)It seems like a good cab for me. I definately get the 4.5XL as my next cab.
Then in the future I can A/B the two cabs.

Ive been gigging for a couple weeks now with my Hydrive 410. I cannot believe its shallow and sealed. This thing has all the low end I need and all the punch I want! I do crank my sm900 up quite a bit, but I havent heard the cab freak out or fart out yet.
I think she just needs good clean power to get a great tone. I'd say at least a 400 watt head.

Sorry if this has been mentioned in this thread, already. I'm just skimming over the first page of this thread.
I just returned from Vic's latest Bass/Nature Camp and he talked a little about his new Hartke deal.
First, he's happy with the new hydrives, but admits he used to hate the way Hartke amps sounded.
He also stated that choosing just the amp is not enough for him. He has to feel good about the people behind the company. So if the sound between one amp or the other isn't making enough of a difference for U, then know that with Hartke, there are good people behind the product.
I must concur with what Rhythm5 says up above, that most of the sound comes from the players' hands. At the camp, I had the privilage of playing some of Vic's most note-worthy Foderas and they all sounded like crap. Hmmm... maybe it wasn't the instruments?
