Victor's metronome demo

Excellent find! I think I'm gonna put in a long day of practice tomorrow, and discover just how off my timing is...!

...it's Wooten 'the man' that impresses me the most. There just doesn't seem to be even a hint of diva in him even though he has to know that the vast majority of the bass playing world is just gaga over what he can do.

+1
His humility is actually his biggest influence over me. He's actually said in interviews that the better he gets, the better the next generation gets, and that's a big part of why he practices and teaches. That would pretty much command respect from anyone.

Victor Wooten is a scholar and a gentleman who has been so generous in sharing his gifts.

This video is a gift to all players, but especially to those that feel they don't need a metronome. Victor brings the credibility.

but especially to those that feel they don't need a metronome.

Yeah, it's not immediately obvious that there's more to using a metronome than "Okay, now I'm gonna make sure I'm playing this stuff straight...click-click-click-click..."

Like, I've experienced the fact that it's difficult to play with a slow metronome, but I don't think it occurred to me to chase that feeling at the time. Usually, I really do go into hot pursuit when I find something awkward.

Oddly enough I don't like most of the fast stuff he plays - simple grooves like demonstrated here with tasty runs - is so much more interesting - the thing is I think Victor is still maturing musically and coming into his own - I only think the music from him will continue improve. Nice is example of less is more.

Nice find. Everyone needs to work with a metronome - it's amazing how "off" your time can be - even great players as he demonstrates.

I am not a huge fan of his triple thumb thump, harmonic filled stuff - to each their own - but I REALLY like to listen to him groove, walk, etc. - the "normal" stuff we can all do at some level.
