Can't use that, it's GUITAR tape, and The State of California in the intervening years has outlawed it, anyway.

Make sure you install it in a climate controlled environment that mimics the humidity of the Fender shop of that era.

Tone will be different if installed in an air conditioned room.

Here's some vintage masking tape, genuine BASS masking tape, and it's from California, PRE-BAN:

It was stuck on the end of the case when I bought this 1964 Precision bass in Los Angeles in 1993, (which makes it an aftermarket accessory, I know), It is not still sticky. At all. But the mojo and tone remains.

It’s very likely it is pre-CBS, lots of inventory was carried over. No reason to suspect that isn’t legit.
