Hello, some updates:

Well, this was an epic fail, guys :) Well, almost.
The mudbucker clone from Artec happened to be a really weak link here. The distance between poles and the width of magnets is not enough for the G and E to be picked up properly. You know, this typical problem of weak E on Ricks? I have it, multiplied by two :D

Now, I am a little bit stuck here: the route made in the body is too large for any other pickup to fit nicely (thanks god it is Squier, not some $1000+ bass!).

I have two solutions, the first one one is easy - fit another pickup (PB, MM, whatever) and cover the route by the bigger pickguard like on the Telecaster Lotto bass.

The second is more interesting and I think I will go this way even if it is harder: change the mudbucker pickup guts so it works nicely with this string spacing. Maybe will try to fit the split PB coils there, faking the existent mudbucker pole peaces...

P.S. Don't even ask me to consider the Darkstar, unless you are ready to offer it to me :D Feel free to send me as much money as you can :D

Modding the pickup might be a bit tricky, I think. In theory, you could redrill the metal bar and realign the polepieces to match the string position, but you'd need to make a blank pickup cover of your own - of course, you can ditch the metal cover and use hard plastic or thick circuit board plastic.

Or, you could take a pair of SCPB ('51 P-bass) coils and wire those in series like a humbucker; in theory they should fit in the existing route and the output should be very interesting. Note, however, the SCPBs should be reverse-wound and reverse-polarity, so it might be a challenge.
