I think the problem is not only in the position of pole pieces but in the size of the coils and bar magnets which are too narrow, creating too narrow magnetic field. I've tried to raise the G and E adjusters, it doesn't help much even with the poles nearly touching the E it has always this volume drop.

Too bad about those pickups. A Dimarzio Model One might fit in there and they can be found used fairly easily.

Personally, I'd drop in a fat MM-style humbucker in that route if it were possible.

But the Dimarzio Model One suggestion looks like it'd work too:

MM is too narrow for the route

I have repaired some pickups already and have the wire and winding rig, will try to do something with this Artec. I will post the updates here to let you know how it is going...

i would see about installing some coil taps/series-parallel switches.

ive heard of a few people say they conquered their mudbucker issues this way
