That's because troll threads usually start with someone saying "I don't understand why people.....<insert anything here>". When the OP usually has no intention of learning or understanding anything. They just want to see people get defensive about what is nothing more than a personal preference.
I'm not saying that's you - if you are legitimately trying to learn something then great. But this is nothing new it happens every week.
And it is EXACTLY why I was so hesitant to start the thread in the first place and why I tried (without only limited success) to put a caveat that "I'm not trying to start something, just trying to get some answers". Apparently that was not read or understood as I intended it.
My concern was that my honest quest for knowledge would be mis-construed to be a troll post. But, I gave TB the benefit of the doubt and dove in.
A mistake I won't be making too many more times.
My quest for knowledge is not great enough to put up with the unjustified name calling.
So thanks to all who used this thread as a chance to sing the praises of your vintage Fender basses. I have learned quite a bit from you stories.
