The previous owner drilled all those extra holes...they didn't come that way from the factory.
That's what I figured, I didn't know if they had drilled the body for the G side and then ran out of the right pickguards, or something.
But for a '75 P the "proper" place would be on the E side, correct?
That's kinda cool...that's my hand and Jazz pictured above. I'd forgotten about that pic!
I'm forever in your debt for posting that the first time. The position of the thumb rest below the strings always drove me crazy!
So while we are on the thumb rest topic, does anyone know what year and bass did Fender use a brass (gold) metal thumb rest. I had a 78 p bass, Antigua with one and I have seen one or two over the years but curious about the originality.
The only ones that came with gold thumbrests was the '80-'83 Precision Specials, and the 82-83 gold roller Jazz. As well all the hardware is gold.
You could order an individual gold one then.
But an Antigua bass with chrome hardware wouldn't have come with a gold rest.
