Which delay would you choose to get a vintag-y/warm/tape sound?

Given you want something smallish, [Invalid or Expired Link Removed].

I would get its big brother, the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed].

I also really like the Aqua Puss, but you say you "want to get a vintage sound with modulated weird sounds", so get its younger, crazier brother the [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] for some wackyness.

I'm looking at both the El Capistan and the Empress Tape Delay for the reason of a high-pass filter.
As of now I'm leaning towards the El Cap simply because of all the attention to detail that went into it.
When all is said and done I'll only ever adjust the tap tempo, but it'll sure be fun to twiddle some knobs trying to find the perfect sound!

To hell with vintage if you want ambience. Go for the particle. You will love the crazy.

The pedal in-between the Aqua and the Supa-Puss - the Echo-Puss is also a great pedal. Have to say, I'm not convinced the Aqua Puss is best suited to bass - it only has up to 300ms of delay which I don't think gives you enough flexibility & options for bass, compared to up to 600ms on the Echo and 900ms on the Supa-Puss.

My favorite analogue so far, and not on the list, is the Earthquaker Devices Disaster Transport series. I personally prefer just the Jr model as a fantastic reverb-ish delay with tailz and some very natural decay...as well as a delay that works very well with bass. Sold it a while back due to the band not playing much anymore. Band is going to be playing again, and I have been looking at other options but haven't heard a suitable replacement.

I'm using the Catalinbread Belle Epoch right now and LOVE IT... plays just like the Echoplex I owned back in the day. Want to add their Echorec as well. I never even saw an original Binson in the flesh, but if the Catalinbread stomp box captures the vibe as well as the Belle Epoch does for the Maestro, I am in!!

Not to derail, but i'm genuinely curious how most folks around here use delays without hi-pass filters. While it may sound very cool by itself, to me it just muds up a mix too quickly.
A hi-pass filter (at around 500 or above) removes all chance of mudiness and makes delay infinitely more usable to a bassist IMO. I'd suggest you all try it sometime.

In the 'Other' category, I stomp on an Ibanez DE7 - this cheap-as-chips echo/delay does get freaky when you get hands-on with it. And I have a Maxon AD999 that fits the bill although it's a little largish for you - it's a veritable bucket-brigade bonanza. I use those two all the time along with a DD3. You might also try a Caroline Kilobyte. Although I haven't yet, I would love to take one of them for a spin - It's lo-fi and it's sly. It's digitanologue, to coin a phrase. So's the DE7, I believe :)

Hope the wampler tape echo does the job for ya
