vinyl record pickguard.

Thought i would share some pictures of a vinyl record i turned into a pickguard for my VM jaguar bass.


Was thinkin i might do it with a lazr etched vinyl like styx. Any recomendations for sweet looking older vinyls.

I cut a new one and sanded it like someone mentioned. It didnt really work and i could get a nice finish so i just kept on sanding. Check it out after polished

Good work, I don't know about older vinyls but The Mars Volta and this band called Torche have some crazy looking Vinyl

I had an etched copy of Split Enz - True colours.

I think the LP from the Superman II soundtrack might work, also.

Coloured discs might work, depending on the combination, I had a gold copy of Grand Funk - We're an American Band.

I also sold my Styx - Pieces of Eight Yellow copy.

I had a green Peter and the Wolf, by David Bowie, once. Great album.

Bootlegs galore came in neat colours. The Genius of Pete Townsend is pictured;

A lot of the picture discs would depend on your musical tastes, I guess.

Personally, I don't know if I'd be comfortable doing it, as they're pretty valuable, but that's just me.

My Split Enz laser etched record came to mind but then I thought my red vinyl Rush Hemispheres album because, well, it has brains on the label. BRAINS!

Then I checked and saw they ask $250+ for it on the bay so No. Bootlegs are a good place to look. Split Enz can be had for like $10 on eBay and it's good because the geo shapes show well at all angles.

Cool idea, though I'm old enough that seeing good vinyl of good music used this way still makes me rather queasy!

Now, if it was a Donny Osmond (or, say, Justin Bieber for you young folks) LP, I wouldn't object it being used in such a way, though I wouldn't necessarily want the label showing on my bass, either!

it was some old cospal record. The Medical Mission Sisters.
I have a pretty big record collection. 400+ and i have alot of new records that are coloured but would not use them.
I was thinking of styx paradise theatre, they sold millions of copys of it. I have 3, also was thinkin of using led zeppelin 4 just for the awesomeness.

Not too terribly, I think I'll live!

And funny, just yesterday, I found a site that had the Zep 4 "runes" done in celtic knot style as paua inlays! Not sure I bookmarked it. Would be so cool on a fretless board!

A+. Very, very cool. I would apply for a patent immediately. Wonder if you would have any trouble from the record companies.

Personally, I think that would be the Best Pickguard for Metal! It reminds me of Kirk Hammett's horror-movie-themed signature guitars.

Recently, during a casual search through eBay, I saw some pickguards made from vinyls. Are those yours, Dred? If so, I hope you make a nice pocketful o' change. I think it's a great idea!
