If you're gonna buy two, and mix, the 1200 is king. For playing one record at a time, there are better choices, at that price point. Not enough better to make me bother to swap my one remaining 1200.

You have an amp; do you have a RIAA, phono pre-amp?

No mixing, just listening to one vinyl at a time.

I have a Yamaha RX-V1050. The user manual leads me to believe it is made to connect directly to a turntable. Am I correct about this?

Sorry, a little ignorant to all this stuff. I have been researching but it's tough to figure it all out.

That's not an amp, that's a receiver. It's got the RIAA pre-amp built in. So, yeah, you're fine.

Can't go wrong with a 1200.

Under $200 - Sony PS-LX350H (and absolutely nothing else new). About $200 - Audio Technica AT-PL120. About $300 - Denon DP300F or Pro-Ject Debut III. Above that - Rega P3, and up and up and up....... Then there's always craigslist. I got a steal there on my circa 1981 Realistic LAB-440.

Ok, i didnt read the whole thread. But who here is more of a "45 guy" than a 33 1/3?? I have a friend who has pretty much every soul/funk 45 i would ever want, and i am extremely envious, but my collection is strictly 33's.

Hopeful information bump:

I have a copy of a Django record, titled Volume 1, that Dial (the 1946 Dial) put out. I've never been able to find much information about it, only that the only other copy I've seen is a) selling for stupid money on ebay:

and b) has a completely different sleeve than mine (although the labels on the vinyl are identical). Mine has an illustration of Django playing on it. Anyone got any ideas? I'll try and take some pictures later tonight, if I can dig up a digital camera.

I would not dare play any of my records on that turntable or any of the many clones of that model sold under many brand names. That turntable is destroying every record you play on it.

A Pro-Ject Debut III would be a quantum leap. A Denon DP-300F would be a huge improvement also. Other gignatic improvements for even less dough rei mi include the Sony PSLX350H (NOT the PSLX250H - that's more or less the same trash you have). Or the Audio Technica PL-120 (they just released a new USB version, don't know the model number).

Love the speakers and receiver though! ;)

That is a GREAT deal!!!!! Jump all over it if it's clean!!!!! Three issues with that NAD from the pics I've dug up:

(1) The headshell is kind of funky looking. May or may not be a problem. Probably won't be a problem at all unless the headshell is completely missing. If it's a problem you can easily replace the headshell with something likeLink Removed.

(2) Probably will need a new belt. This should cost about $20 or less.

(3) New cartridge is easy peasy. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] highly recommended. Or a lower priced alternative is the audio-technica AT95E . Lots of other good stuff out there.
