Vinyl spinners club

I bought an Ortofon 2M Blue cartridge (on sale) and set up the TT last night. The sound, compared to the one it came with, is quite improved.

I'm enjoying records on this stereo far more than I expected. I'd read enough about how nice vinyl sounds, but now that I've spun for a number of times I agree it has something to it that's alluring.

Plus I'm finding a bunch of local, well stocked vinyl shops around the city and meeting some new people into the same hobby.

Grand total: 675 vinyl discs in 611 releases. Not a huge collection, but anyway, a whole life is there.

I was over jamming with some guys tonight, rehearsing for a show we have next month, and I mentioned to the guitarist/singer that he had some decent records, and he was like "Yeah? You're into vinyls too?" And I told him yes, so he told me to go search through the big piles in the other room because he didn't want any of it (someone had just dumped tons onto him), and I could take anything I wanted from it, but told me there probably wouldn't be anything good.

So I went digging, and pulled up:

Not a bad haul, I'd say.

I've listened to probably half of them by now and they're all in practically mint condition (well, the vinyls themselves... the sleeves have seen better days). I've also got another 8 in the mail right now.

I started this year with none, and when my next order comes in, I'll be sitting at nearly 70. :help: Not bad for the span of a year, I'd say. :p

In other news, my grandfather passed away semi-recently, and I ended up the vinyl. We're talking a lot of classical reprints, but also a couple gems--Pete Seeger, Django, George Bernard Shaw...

Oh, and I finally got my hands on a copy of OM's Conference Live, as well as Hendrix's Band Of Gypsys. Not especially hard to find, of course, but always good for a smile.

I have a large vunyl record collection that includes well over 5,000 LPs and several hundred 45s. My LP collection covers mostly 60s through 80s but includes many highly collectible records as I was a record dealer at shows for several years and have many rare items such as picture discs, radio promos, colored vinyl, shaped records, radio concerts, and other unusual records. I sold off quite a few years ago too. I even have some of the very first records ever made - the Edison cylinder records and also some of the extremely think and heavy bakelite records from early the 1900s.

I own a Bang & Olufsen linear tracking turntable with a diamond stylus cartridge I bought in the late 80s that was state of the art back then and still works like a charm. I have replaced the stylus over the years a few times.

If anybody is looking for a specific vinyl record, I may have it and be willing to sell it. Over 90% of my records I sell are in excellent to mint condition. My personal records I have played many times though.

A guy at work recently gave me his Zenith unit: it's a turntable and an 8-track in one. Even more notable is it's a recordable 8-track system. I didn't even know you could record on 8-track. He used to record vinyl straight to 8-track and play it in his car.

Unit still looks new, just haven't had any time to try it out.

I've been interested in vinyl for a while but have never put any effort into finding a table (already have an amplifier etc.).

For someone looking to get into vinyl, whats a good player that will last a while? The 1200 gets a lot of praise, are there any better tables to look at value wise?
