Visiting SW Ontario & Toronto, where to go?

I'm headed up to the Great White North the last week of July to visit my mom. (She's in the bustling metropolis of St. Thomas, Ontario.)

I always try to spend a day in Toronto. From searching & googling, I've come up with the 12th Fret, Steve's Music, and L&M. But these all seem to be "big name" stores, like Guitar Centers.

I'm really more in the market for used goods, be it basses or equipment (pedals, etc.). Any smaller, Mom & Pop type places worth trying out?

Apart from those three, anywhere else I should try? Oh, anything between London & St. Thomas is fair game too. I'm not looking for clubs/music, just shops.

+1 for Club Bass. Pretty much a bass player's candy shop. I was in Steve's last week looking for a Tony Franklin Precision. They didn't have one but could order one for me at a great price. Yeah, GAS Attack !
Lakeshore Music in Burlington is supposed to be pretty fair. I haven't been there for years but my guitard bro of 35+ years has dealt there exclusively for a LONG time.

Not music related but if you get a chance, try a "Maid of the Mist" boat ride just below Niagara Falls. Pretty cool and refreshing. And if you like hot dogs, no trip would be complete without an Arbour Dog foot long - with a large Golden Glow juice - in Port Dover !

there is a place in toronto ( right downtown ) called richmond's trading post. it is a pawn shop that deals exclusively in musical instruments. though i haven't been there for a while i can remember seeing some very interesting stuff in there.

if you can and have the time, contact Fbass for a factory tour. they are located in hamilton which is about 45 minutes from toronto and if you call ahead you should be able to arrange something. i went down a few years back and had a great time - it is a first class place that makes a first class bass. you won't be disappointed.

For used vintage gear go to Capsule Music on Queen St west and Paul's Music Boutique on Nassau Street in Kensington Market. Both of these stores have websites, check them out.

Unfortunately, Richmond's Trading Post (a pawn shop) is no longer in business. But there are a few other pawn shops on the same strip where it was. They're on Church Street at Queen St East.

Finally, if you want to travel a bit further to the east, there's Encore Music Exchange in Scarborough. They too have a website you can check out first.

Really? That is quite the subpar beer for Ontario. If you want good beer, Steamwhistle is the best Pilsner that I have ever had, brewed in Toronto. Anything from Mill Street Brewery will taste amazing (my favorite brewery) and since you will be in St. Thomas, you need to try an Iron Spike, I think it is better from the bottle, but many disagree. All the cool bass places have been covered, but I will second going for a tour of Fbass.
