Vodka - what's your pleasure?

I'm almost done with a large bottle of Stoli that was given to me, and I've grown used to the idea of having some vodka in fridge for when I am so moved.

All I really know are some names. Absolut, Grey Goose, Stoli.

So whaddya like?

Nothing flavored. Nothing that costs as much as a bass.

Grey Goose, primarily because... it's not Stoli or Absolut?

I'm not enough of a vodka connoisseur to offer anything better than that, but that's basically why I picked it up. It mixes well with other things when I make stuff with it, so I've stuck with it. :wacky:

Interested to see what other folks think though.

I tend to not spend much on vodka since I use it strictly for cocktails, and not that often. I've had success with Deep Eddy and Three Olives, and the price for both is right. Not super cheap, but not as much as the big brands either.

We have a jug of Tito's on the shelf. There was something we used to make with vodka a long time ago- I can't even remember the last time we opened that jug- and can't remember what we used to make with it. Hmmm...

This is from Dec 2020- and that jug of Tito's is right behind the gin- in front of the Captain Morgan.

Two years later, you can see it hiding behind the tequila jug. FWIW- I just killed that tequila bottle on Monday.
Back in the day, those poor things wouldn't have lasted 2 weeks between the 2 of them.

There's a dirt cheap vodka called Voda that I think is great. Other brands in that price range taste like prison toilet hooch, but this one's great. Grey Goose and Kettle One are fine but not any better than Voda IMO and cost thrice as much.

Dripping Springs is my favorite.
I travel often and can get Tito’s everywhere. I like it but I like Drip better. And they’re available a lot of places now.

I don't drink the stuff. I use it as an ingredient. Without sampling a ton of vodka I consulted with the folks at the liquor store looking for the most flavorless vodka they had, and they recommended Platinum 7X ("distilled 7 times!" they claim) and it appears to meet my needs. Last year these jars were full bottom to top with peaches and sugar. Then filled with vodka. The peachy goodness has been pulled out into the liquid to an extent now, making the space on the bottom. I do the same thing with plums as well.

It's definitely better than some of the crap vodka I met in college that didn't claim to be flavored, but definitely had some unpleasant tastes. And it does not cost the earth, though it is also not the cheapest stuff in the store.

I drink Vodka almost exclusively when indulging. Here in Canada, the tax on liquors is ridiculous and so I stay away from the Ciroc, Belvedere and Grey Goose spirits which all have a syrupy taste to me and are priced like fine Whiskeys.

I'm a fan of the traditional Vodkas. Stoli, Smirnoff, etc. We have a couple of great Canadian brands that I prefer. One is Iceberg which is made from the water of Icebergs (the actual berg used is numbered on the bottle) and Alberta Pure from which the water comes from Rocky Mountain glaciers. Both are award winning and pure as 10,000 yr old water can be. :)

Recipe 21 for me.

Made locally and stocked as a bottom shelf Vodka, it's really pretty good. Much better than Skyy, Tito's and other mid grade Vodka.

I make liquors like that from a stand of wild plums on my property and also blackberries. My wife makes her own Lemoncello and also vanilla extract. All of this using the cheapest 100 proof vodka we can find.

For vodka and tonic, about the only cocktail I make with vodka, I just grab a bottle of Smirnoff and call it a day.
