I'm a fan of the traditional Vodkas. Stoli, Smirnoff, etc. We have a couple of great Canadian brands that I prefer. One is Iceberg which is made from the water of Icebergs (the actual berg used is numbered on the bottle) and Alberta Pure from which the water comes from Rocky Mountain glaciers. Both are award winning and pure as 10,000 yr old water can be. :)

You're not kidding about the Canadian liquor tax. When I briefly lived in Quebec, I don't think I bought any due to the insane prices. I stuck to Quebec-produced beer since even beer from other provinces was more expensive.

my wife likes vodka so i'll take a taste of grey goose now and then. she's a brand snob but she really can't pass a blind test: i once gave her a gift basket with 9-10 200ml bottles of various brands --- as long as i told her it was "grey goose" when i mixed her a drink = she loved all of 'em! :D

Perception is definitely reality with this sort of thing. I tend to buy premium brands too, but could I tell the difference blindfolded? Probably not. Marketing is a powerful thing.

My wife and I are going to a fancy resort for our anniversary coming up, and I’m doing an American whiskey tasting while there. I’m curious to see if I can tell the differences between them.

Looked on the fridge, the most recent purchase is called Skol. Inexpensive stuff, 'cause we just use it for Bloody Mary's on weekends. Any nuances of taste are wiped out when the Zing-Zang Bloody Mary mix is added and the drink glass is rimmed with Old Bay Seasoning.

These inexpensive Vodka's we rotate thru are surprisingly good at temp pain relief of toothaches when held over the bad tooth LOL.

Got drunk (decades ago) sipping a bottle of unknown Vodka with some Russian businessmen while in Bulgaria. Bottle label was entirely in Russian, so no idea what it was. Whatever 'twas, 'twas most effective LOL.

I've tasted and enjoyed Stoli and Polar Ice. I think you can tell I'm not a connoisseur.

I know a few whiskeys I like (usually, scotch not so much as bourbon, but Rye is king and all IMO), Rum and Vodka I tend to just be happy that it's there.

I don’t imbibe much anymore. Grey Goose if I do have vodka. A buddy used to do a fair amount of business in Russia (before the war) and always brought back a bottle or two. I can’t recall any names but some of these were the smoothest vodkas I’ve ever had.

There’s a local distillery making something called Vodkow. From cows milk. Interesting, but not for me. I think we have a bottle at the back of the cabinet. Beside the moonshine and the Fireball whiskey. All gifts.

I don’t drink much but vodka is my drink of choice if I’m drinking liquor. I usually drink Belvedere and Chopin.

I used to drink Ketel One when I didn’t want to spend much and found it to be a pretty good vodka for the price. But then they started advertising heavily and the price went up. I guess advertising is expensive. :rollno:

EDIT: The flavored vodkas don’t do much for me. I always drink the “unflavored” vodka-flavored vodkas.
