Never seen one before, and kind of surprising about the lawsuit, given that it has the least Fender headstock by comparison to many of the rip-offs that followed.

Also, ironic given that Leo would name his next major design the "StingRay"...



But most importantly, what the heck is a "pufling"?

Something is strange. How could have I missed this post?? I do remember a similar one but my response isn't here.
Next to "The DC fan" is the bass I bought from a gentleman in England of Reverb. I needed to get the neck heat treated to get the neck straight and the bass was cleaned up. Here are pictures of that bass below. As I recall Rick Huxley of the Dave Clark Five played: Fender Precision, Fender Jazz, Vox teardrop, Burns 6 string bass and a Vox Symphonic bass.

"PurFling"

Purfling is a narrow decorative edge inlaid into the top plate and often the back plate of a stringed instrument. It was originally made of laminated strips of wood, and later nacre and other hard inlay materials. Plastic is commonly used in modern mass-produced instruments. Purfling may affect the instrument's acoustics.

Purfling is distinct from binding, which is used primarily to control moisture rather than decoration. Inexpensive instruments may simulate purfling with paint.

This was so long ago, I've no idea what / who I was quoting, but there doesn't appear to be any mention on the originally linked article, not the O.P.

I guess I was worried a Puffin chick was being abused...?
