VT Bass > DI into board?

I've always used whatever DI the soundman gave me, but I'm looking to invest into my own.

I'm thinking about using my VT bass Pedal into a Radial JDI for the board. So I have control over the tone. (Obviously I know not to mess with eq settings during the gig going into the board).

My question, for those you have dealt with a lot of soundmen, will this possibly irritate soundmen? From what I understand, they like a clean signal. I use passive P basses and I'm going to be getting a passive DI, to you post VT Bass. In this situation, I shouldn't have a low DI output. Is this a bad idea?
