Double Bass "Wahoo" Duke Pearson

Simple 1 - 4 - 1 - 5 - 4 - 1 chord progression.

But time signature, it's 5/4 right? I'm sure of it, then I start doubting and counting it differently. I think my ears are playing tricks on me. I know it's 5.

But, is it?

Hey thanks for owning up to being a slacker! You can always count on the Seattle boys to come to the front on that one.

It's on Wahoo! and the Tune is Wahoo!. Out of print, but since we're in the same town, I'll bet I could trade you a copy for a fresh pint.

It's some boppy, funky goodness. Not sure why Blue Note pulled it back.

But he throws you off, because beat 2 comes a bit early, so it almost has a 6/8 feel.

Thank you! I know it's in 5, but I kept talking myself into doubting it for some reason. You may be right about the reason. Glad it's not just me.

Awesome groove. I really like Duke Pearson. Does something specific, fairly simple, but does it with a dumptruck full of conviction. I'll have to score that head and drop it on my band-mates for a final set, post midnight add one of these days.

Yeah, I'm sure it's in 5, but I can turn it around pretty easily. Almost like one of those paintings with the dots that if you stare at it long enough it starts to look like an elephant riding a bicycle or something.
