Correction....mine look like this on the MKIII. This may have been the lightweights that were made avail to Pete at the time of this build.
These look alot like the Hipshot ones on Wal's website on the MKIII but mine are not stamped.
I also noticed PJ that 2 of your other Wals (both new build MKIII's) have the Hipshot Ultralights on them. Did you specify to Paul that you wanted orig. style Schallers on this one?

No I didn't ! I think these light weight Hiphots are standard for MKIIIs. But I forgot to specify them for my MKII 5. Five heavy M4S add a lot of weight on the headstock !My MKII5 balance , when sitting , is no good due to these 5 heavy big ears ! It's no so bad, but I so expensive bass has to be perfect lol !

Anyone know the story of this one???? If this is for real, someone got a SMOKIN DEAL

Ah that sounds right!! Forgot that how I got my black poly!! So it actually didn't sell at that price. Seller just ended it early and took it out.Someone musta made an offer the seller couldn't refuse....which probably meant more than the opening bid.

speaking of tuners. I've looked at a bunch of older and newer MKI's and they all seem to have the more Y shaped schallers M4's where mine has the bigger clover style. Where other MkI's built with tuners like mine or are they possibly non-original?

I am very curious where it is going to end in terms of price.

The answer to your question is actually quite simple. Pete had a batch of wrong tuners, the so-called elephant ears. You're tuners are completely original Wal.
