The correct way to tighten the jack, is to remove the two chrome screws holding the black jack casing to the body, and rotate the casing itself until it's tight (while holding the jack from the inside so it doesn't rotate). Realign the screw holes and screw it back down. Don't try tightening from the inside, too may wires you may damage or crisscross into touching each other.

thank you Marcos. I had the two pan knob dead center, the filters at 9 or 10 with the knobs pulled out, and no pick attack. the G string was already super hot as it was. I didn't want to make it any worse. :)

I'm not sure I have the equipment to put a video up. I'll see if I can't give it a try later today.

J., that's was really great...I showed it to my bandmates and they thought it was some sort of backing track ...

When I plug my bass in, I get some buzzing and other weird noises, is there a ground on it somewhere? I assume so, if I touch any metal the buzzing goes away, but I took a look inside the control cavity and didn't see anything that looked like it might be a ground, but I'm functionally ********.

Also, for those of you that have a factory installed shim, what is it made of? I'm eventually going to have to shim my neck, and really I could make it out of anything, most people suggest using a business card, but I figure if I can make it the same way it's done from Wal, I might as well try.

I haven't experienced a buzzy one yet, all have been dead silent, but everything should be grounded inside. There is a bridge wire that runs into the control cavity and is looped around the pan pot. The cavity is painted in shielding paint, and the rear cover contacts the paint when screwed on.
Unless your house or jam pad outlets just have crappy grounds.

The factory shim is a very thin wood wedge, and usually would have been glued to the underside of the neck.
I don't like starting with business cards as I find them too thick. I start with construction paper.

Thanks, I'll take a look at it tonight, I didn't see anything loose but the ground wire may have become disconnected, other than that I think I'm out of luck.

I don't know if I have the balls to remove my neck to add a shim, but I appreciate the input, if it comes down to it I'll try construction paper first.

crazy couple of days at work. thanks for the kind words everyone!

I've noticed a neat side effect of playing with these light strings. the rubber band twangy tone is fun and all when you dig in, but to play clean you have to be real light with the right hand, obviously.

now when I go back to my other bass with .105-.045 sunbeams my playing sounds so damn clean! the muscle memory from playing those dinky strings has made me way more "finesse-y" if that's a word.

Nice!! Now the question to ask yourself, what type of strings will you be requesting on your new build ;)
