I got it to pull up by putting the number in the search. It's high. I have a fretted and fretless so I'm in no hurry. If a good price came up on one I'd bite. Plus I'm looking to have a fretless neck made so I look at cost of bass plus neck. At that price I'd be better off getting the one on bass direct leaving it at home and making love to it everyday. Things like car accidents happen and damage the finish of your prize bass. On a happier note. Made contact with a drummer. We are supposed to meet and start jamming sometimes this week. And I found a good deal on a corporate pull Mac Pro. So my home recording studio will be started this week. I'll try to get a recording of the cello suite I worked up. One step closer.

Hi, updates on the Geddy Lee´s Wal neck story:

I actually won the bid on ebay for the neck.

I have a MK II under construction and thought I could have a replacement neck if anything happened...I already lost 2 necks (Fenders) and would´t miss
a chance of having a 2nd neck just in case...

I emailed the owner, who got the neck from another person. The guy who signed the COA is a former Stage Right employee who was Geddy´s personal studio bass technician from 74 to 97.

He said that Geddy swapped the Wal´s neck because he wanted a neck with a lager fretwire.

I emailed Paul and he took 3 weeks to answer me. After checking his records, he confirmed the date of the Red Wal order and confirmed an order for a second neck for the red Wal. The dates of the orders match the date of the neck and its specifications.

I emailed the original owner again, and he confirmed that he might have been mistaken on the dates, since it´s been 23 years...after checking the story, he is making another COA correcting the information.

So, there´s a chance this is really the first neck of the red wal used on Roll the Bones in the studio.

The neck has a few dings here and there, a crack on the painting at the headstock, a few cracks on the gloss finish in some of the side dots, but it´s in really good shape, despite of the 23 years without a body. It´s almost straight, with a small curve that should be corrected with strings and some truss rod adjustments (which works in both directions and with pretty much space to work).

I won´t do any other research on this item, I´m happy with the neck and it´s gonna have a red gloss (flamed maple) body pretty soon!

I´m thinking about changing my order for a fretless neck (if Paul agrees...)

And finally, there are signs of light fretwork and the frets are really smaller than the ones I find in my MK IIIs.

Marcos...without going over the facts and obvious mistakes about this neck. I would review the posts noted below.

You may also want to pass the link on to the owner, because not only do the dates need to be "adjusted" in the COA....The claimed bass this neck came off of, also needs to be "adjusted"

I would ask the owner to provide you with the contact info of the person he is claiming to be the one re-issuing the COA and ask him how 2 major mistakes could have been made for someone who handled the bass hundreds of times, could say this came off his black bass???. You would think that this wouldnt happen when he was his tech for 23 years.

Getting this info "sorted out" will be most beneficial to YOU down the road if you ever decide to sell the neck weather its attached to a bass or not. Its a good idea to protect yourself against any potential financial loss. Hence the reason for my post.

Hi TMB Thanks for the post. I already reviewed all the facts about this neck. Looked over thousand of pictures of Lee´s Wals to catch every detail...

I sent all this info to the original owner and he agreed that the information was wrong and adjusted the COA for the dates and for the right bass.

How he could forget? I don´t know...He claims he was his bass tech only for studio and not on the road and had less contact with this instrument because it was used in only one album...

This is the further I could get from Paul, the original owner and from the seller. Wether is Geddy or not, this is only a chance.

I tend believe the guy. However, If I ever sell this neck, it´s gonna be as a "regular" Wal neck.

Great ! You can refinish the neck and make it brand new for a good price in Brazil, maybe U$ 150 to 200 and you'll have a brand new (still a geddy's neck lol) neck.

Good point. I´m thinking about leaving it as it is, with it´s own mojo.

There´s still plenty of time to think about it!

PJ: In case of a painting restoration, who do you recomend in Brazil to do the job?

Otto, a friend of mine... he can do it and it will look great. Maybe the "mojo" was not make by Geddy hands once he changed this neck for another one , this way I think you should not care about it lol !
