I'm glad that I already placed an order for my second Mk1 before this price hike. That £400 increase is almost as much as the price of a custom metallic finish. It's a good thing I listened to what people were saying and pulled the trigger when I did.
I told my wife about Wals price hike today. And she says "you have two on order already".
Wait, what?!

i wonder if some of you have the same sensitive mk1 neck that i have?
i live in sweden and the weather is dry/moist/warm/cold and wet! this summer is a really wet and moist air.
My neck on my mk1 (mahogany ) is like a rubber band! one week its perfekt and the other week its way off! i know how to fix this but its frusterating. My other instruments are more or less good all the time. at least they are not extreme off the main place!
i really like low action and straight neck.
could it be the trossrodd that mike lull has replaced last summer ?? i really dont think so but how knows?
i will ask him off course and i will ask paul also.

I live in Montreal, Canada where the weather changes are pretty dramatic. Summer is hot and humid and winter is very dry and cold as well. Of the two Wals that I've owned, I've been astounded at how resilient the necks were. With my other guitars/bass, I have to intonate and adjust them essentially every spring and fall, with both Wals I never had to touch them, it was pretty shocking.

All 4 of my Wal necks stay crazy straight
My Mk1 was also very weather sensitive, but it had a rather small and thin neck for a Wal. So I guess it depends on the individual bass.
My 2 Wals are super stable too, but we're talking about wood & anything goes...
My EBMM bongo neck is super sensitive to humidity & so is a multi laminate neck on a custom bass I have, made by a small US builder - even my Fodera suffers from the occasional bout of fret sprout - but keeps its relief...

I have 10 Wals and a lot of other basses. The answer :
Each kind of wood , finish and neck construction reacts different according the weather, temperature and humidity . So if you are a low action addicted you'll have more problems. Half of my Wals Necks are very stable , half not. Also the FB wood and finish can absorb the air humidity and generate a lot of neck instability . Sealed neck and FB finishes could easily solve a great part of the problem. Also carbon fibre bars reinforced necks are the most stables ones, I do not know if Wal offers this option. Thickness is another variable , Thicker necks are much more stable than thin necks.
So I'm sure this is out on the thread somewhere, but if one were to want to put a Drop D tuner on their Wal, which would one use?

these do not fit well.... i've tried them on all my Mk1's and Mk2's and it did not fit right. if you do end up wanting to try it yourself, make sure wherever you get it at a place that has a lenient return policy.
here's a pic of the closest fitting, but you'll get an idea of how it does't line up.

Hmmm....When you put in the washer does it look alright? It looks like the EB4 is no longer made, and just my luck the Gold machine heads on mine won't be available (black or nickel only). I'd rather not chance it A, and B I don't want to ruin the look (3 gold machine heads and some other color would look like a hobo bass). Anyone tried anything else? I see the M4 mini xtenders online, but the "mini" part probably means no dice...
washer wouldn't fit in the hole. the shaft was too close to the edge (and not centered) that it would not seat properly. there were guys who previously stated they bought an EB4 (perhaps in pt 2 or pt 3 of the Wal thread) for their Wals, but no pictures were ever taken showing it on. i've bought 3 of these things and tried them on 5 different Wal basses - all resulted the same.
if anything, you could contact Paul to see if he as a gold extender available.
