wow I'm guessing the rate has changed since I checked last

Hmmm Tool fan too eh?

Don't forget to add the top marker green l.e.d's if your going total JC on this one

did you order it? I had talked to Paul about supplying all of the wood myself (except for mahogany core)
I can still get the Hornbeam and the "rock" maple for the neck....and of course lots of Canadian Birdseye here in Canada...lol

lol look at my rig set up in my profile... I am quite a fan.. but no i didn't want to wait the year+ lol I saw a '96 mk1 on the classifieds for a bit under $5k and just bought that. i posted pics on this thread, a couple pages back... american walnut facing and mahogany core.I have never seen a bass more beautiful this close before lol

One of my short term goals is to get a Wal this year. This thread really helped me get an idea of what to expect when ordering. I did notice that Paul from Wal mentioned import taxes/duties in the e-mail posted above.

--Do any of you have experience regarding what that entails? (i.e. what extra costs are involved regarding importing it?)
--How about service/ warranties? (i.e. if they're in Britain, I imagine it being difficult to ship it back if there's a problem).

BTW- I dig toolmybass' you tube postings. Sounds great.

The cost to ship from UK is pretty low really, maybe $100 for fast shipment (I got my Wal in just a few days this way). One thing to watch for is stated value. This is a catch 22 situation. I had my Wal shipped in with a $low value on the box and it cost me just $47 in custom duties. It will go up if you have more on the label. However, if bass gets lost/damaged/etc, I expect that low value could catch up with you pretty fast... :help:

I just bought a lovely 1983 Mk1 fretless with American Walnut facings (#2231; its shown in the Wal database as being owned by Wilfried Mayr [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] ). Anyways, unsurprisingly given its age, there are a few scrapes and abrasions here and there so I wondered if there is anything I can do to help polish/preserve the finish and also make the abrasions less visible - perhaps some kind of wax or acrylic-based polish? I don't know how they seal the wood so I am nervous of just slapping on the usual polishes. A member of UK forum BassChat has suggested they used an acrylic coat to seal the wood but is not 100% sure. So any suggestions would be gratefully received!

BTW, I have sent the same enquiry to Wal's email address but based on my past experience I am not sure I will get a reply in a timely manner ... my last email went unanswered :(

Thanks Oliver - sounds like a plan! And if anyone is after a 6-string fretless Wal, check out his bass in the FS forum in BassChat - its a beauty (I can't do more than 4 strings though!)

Edit: just checked his online shop and he only sells fingerboard oil, not polish :(

PS, if anyone is after a 2010 six-stringer, one of the guys on my UK bass forum has one FS Invalid Link Removed I have no connection with the seller but thought I'd flag it up as these are rare and thought a TB'er might be interested
