Unless you buy a used one. Bass Direct has a newer 2010 4string MkII/maple faces, looks like Justin Chancellors' bass. It's about full price as ordering one, but you can have it now instead of waiting a year for it to be built.

Three nice ones; two MKI's and a MKII 5 fretless. Bass Direct has a MkII and a ProI fretless.
Kind of suprising, UK dealers are priced right up there same as the new ones, wow. Private seller seems the best way to go. I know there's two currently on ebay UK.

Different top on that one (still flamed maple....but different). The one at BD is much more uniformed maple than Martin's

Does anyone in here know if Justin Chancellor's Wal has the Satin or Gloss finish. Also do either of those choices have much effect on the sound? Only one paycheck away from getting the ball rolling.

Not big on Tool so I don't exactly know. But the only pic I have of his bass sure seems to be the standard satin finish. Its kind of easy to wear through.

No real difference in sound plugged-in that I experienced. My white Wal was natural when I got it, actually it had no finish left on it. After the finish job it still sounded the same.

Uhhh, can't remember.
I must have between 300-400 pictures saved in a file with very short descriptions of most of them.
This is the only close-up I've ever seen. I don't know if that's his typical knob settings, but the visibility is very clear.

Dear Wal owners,

I NEED an MK1 & I'm wondering:

Has anyone ordered an instrument from the "new" Wal workshop & what was your experience (wait time/quality of the instrument/etc.)

OR

Do I just keep lurking the interwebs until I spot one for sale that I might be able to get my hands on for a test run? I'm actually considering a trip to London to check out some used stock @ The Gallery - Bass Merchant - but that can't happen for a few months...

Any advice would be much appreciated.

I do not know if Paul is making MK1's now but you could always ask him. If he has the body shape moulds and the pickups and ecelctronics then I am sure it could be done.

Not sure I have seem a MK1 recently at The Gallery but as always I could be wrong. Bass Direct might be another source to consider for MK1's

Paul got back to me promptly with a cost & build time - unfortunately, I'm one of those "gotta have it now" guys - so I'll likely go the used route...

Very happy that the folks @ Electric Wood are busy with backorders... I might eventually order a second Wal and the wait won't be so agonizing if I've got one in my hands...

I haven't heard any horror stories about the Gallery or Bass Direct - so hopefully I can purchase based on their in-hand descriptions... Although I know a Guitarist in the Brighton area that might be able to take a peek for me in advance... (I'm in Canada btw)

I'll be back (hopefully soon) to join this club!

Looks like I will be the new owner of that one that one with the flamed maple facing. It was made with new old stock 5A flamed maple. Poly finish on the body and the neck is satin.
